I haven't colored or relaxed my hair in a long time and I am so sick of my natural drab brown color. Its summer time so I want something light like a honey/dirty blonde or a lighter brown. My hair and skin color is pretty much the same as Tracee Ellis Ross (don't mind my avatar, that was after 2 months straight baking in the sun during the summer at the pool)...I'm kinda scurd of damage but I am soooo ready for a change and now I'm armed with healthy hair practices...Is this a bad idea?? :ohwell:

I don't think it's a bad idea, but if you've never colored before I think you should go to a trusted professional.

yea i would def. go and get it professionally done! i'm a chicken. oh and btw I read your thread about the relaxed and natchal  masks. i live in LA and I get mine at Kmart by The Grove (on 3rd and Fairfax)

Have you bleached/lifted your hair before? If so, how did it react?

I know for me, personally, going lighter is a deathstamp to my hair - period. *sigh* Which....... *grumbles* well, it is as it is.

If your hair has a generally good reaction to being lifted (can be coaxed into acting right with the right products/regimen) I'd go to a professional to get it done, and take super duper good care of my hair.

If your hair doesn't have a generally good reaction, I wouldn't do it. You're only a few inches from your goal - and it would suck to have a setback at this point. Experiment with some new styles and some new hair toys, or something, instead....

Dang the grove!!!! Thats a bit to far for me, i live around the downey/paramount/norwalk area. But, thanks for the heads up. In case I really get to needing it i'll know where to find it. I did find a few bottles at a Target I'd never seen before near my job. Thank the LORD :lachen: I am going to call Pantene next week and see what's going on...

LOL yea it is pretty strange. you would think they would have them there either beacuse that area is mostly white...

i have bleached my hair before a light red/gold/sumthin a la keyshia cole and it was ok and i was also swimming in a pool almost everyday (without a swimming cap :look:)too. i had some breakage but nothing out of the norm. guess i am just paranoid about my hair now.

I colour my hair myself using a variety of colours for black hair, dark and lovely honeyblonde and textures and tones, but I don't like my hair having a warmish tinge (red tones) so the best i found for that is Schwarzkopf colour for lightening darker hair (can't remember the exact name) it comes out a medium blonde with no reddish tones.:yep:
