Hi all. I started my journey 2 years ago. Due to my transition back into corporate America, I will be relaxing my hair.

Should I attempt to do this myself. Now that I know so much about hair, I am scared to entrust my hair to anyone.

What relaxer should I use? I have 3c hair.

Hi Rapunzel,

Well, I know a lot of ladies are going to say it so I'll say it first :D
You can still work in corporate america and have natural hair!!

Having said that, I too, am planning on relaxing (after 5 years of being natural). I just miss my relaxed hair. I am going to the JCPenney salon to get it done.

Honestly, because you're fully natural I wouldn't do it myself! You have to be able to see when the back is processed and try and match the timing with the front. It's too much pressure, and chances are you won't have everything looking the same... It's not lik you're doing the new growth (which is hard enough), but for the transition back to relaxed, I'd let a pro do it.

Thanks. I am only going relaxed until I really get my foot in the door. Then, back to natural!

please don't relax it...natural hair is so pretty...maybe you should wear a sew in or just flat iron it like Bmore said...i think if u relax it u will miss ur curls and with those styles u can still have them. Plus if u tranition back u are just going to wear it striaghten anyway, so why not just do it now???

But if you do relax it i think it bet to get it done professionally...

You dont have to relax to fit in . That will be the perfect time to hide your hair and do the baggy method and / or bunning . there are alot of options out there. (can you tell that I'm one of those happy to be nappy ladies ? )

I agree just Flat Iron it or wear a wig or just hide it, because that was 2 years worth of growth and then you will have to start that journey all over. I agree with the rest of the Ladies!
Good Luck to you!

If I felt confident that my hair would stay flat, I would do it. The last time I used the flat iron, it was straight at 8, poofy at 10 and straight Angela Davis by noon.

A sew in is a good idea though.

It probably had to do with the technique. I know if I attempted to flat iron my own hair it would look at hot mess. You could get it done at a salon.

Yeah the Salon can do a better job! I tried with my daughter and it ended up looking like she had a relaxer that needed a Touch up, but the salon made it look like it was relaxed and it was very pretty.

But if you want to Relax then Relax! Because you are the one that have to deal with it. You know you have support on here No matter what you do!
But I wish you would keep your natural hair and do a sew in or something.

I would say go for it if you hadn't added that last part about going natural once you get your foot in the door. I work for a government agency and they know that I am transitioning. There is no need to hide your natural beauty, but understanding wanting to be professional. I would go for a professional flat iron and see how that works for you, but go before you start interviewing. If that doesn't work then I would go for micro braids because they can be very professional. I basically would try everything under the sun to keep my natural hair before perming.

i have struggled with going natural for a while now and even seriously considered texlaxing at the end of the summer, but now I see that styles that I can achieve natural I won't be able to do relaxed and its not worth it or so I say now...how about texlaxing has you thought about doing that?

I agree with the other ladies. There are a variety of other options you can do with your hair such as sew-ins weaves, wigs, blow drying then bunning, or just get it flat ironed at the salon. If you get it flat ironed at the salon, it can last as long as three weeks before washing it. Good luck on your decision. Only you can make it.:)

Yup sure can. Mines lasted that long. I was itching to wash but it still looked good.

Thanks for all the replies ladies. Any suggestions on a good weaveologist. Anywhere in the 48 states works for me.

I agree, wig it or weave it, two years of growth is a lot of growth to get back if you know you want to be natural.
