I had been contemplating for and against getting a relaxer. I like my hair natural but it wasn't manageable. Not in the since that I couldn't "do" my hair but I work out and I prefer my hair straight and natural and working out with a straight hair preference don't mix like... (y'all know what i'm trying to say)

So I got a virgin relaxer yesterday...Design Essentials, sensitive scalp

I washed my hair last Saturday and did not comb it before the relaxer. I also got my scalp based and it still burned in two places. On my edges and in the nape. Anyway that's only part of the story.

I hate the way my hair feels and I really want to wash it and condition it again. It just feels hard and i hate the smell of it. That "hair salon smell."

Can I wash my hair now?

I know exactly what you mean. I came very close to returning to relaxer land too until I found BKT.

There are great experts on the board documenting their journey with this treatment with both relaxed and natural hair. Check it out.

Just another option.

I thought the grass was greener, but since I got some high end heat stylers, I no longer need a relaxer for strait hair. I'm sorry your relaxing experience was a bad one.:ohwell: I also miss being able to do some natural styles.

I understand. Though I have never been 100% natural (why I want to transition) I happen to like straight styles but I am wary of the chemicals. Le sigh.

think you can safely wash and condition your hair now. :yep:

I have washed and DCd my hair the very next day after a relaxer because it smelled "like a salon" I say go for it! My hair smelled great and felt much softer after used my own products.

As others have said, yes you can wash it....sometimes your hair will feel a little drier after a relaxer, but I'm sure it will be better soon. Do you like rollersets? You could also do braid-outs, which will be kinda like a "natural style" on your relaxed hair.

As someone contemplating transitioning, I am curious as to what made your hair natural hair so unmanageable? Was it tangles? Lack of moisture? Lack of styling options?
