Yesterday when I saw how much length I lost in my trim I was just sad, but today, as I realise that I can no longer pull my hair back in a ponytail with the ease I had before, I feel like crying. This means that I cant do my buns anymore without using heat or some other means to stretch my hair out before hand. My routine was perfect, not it's back to square one. I've had it

Who trimmed your hair??? Were your ends damaged???

I went to a salon to have my hair trimmed a week ago. The ends needed to go, plus the stylist wanted to get most of the color out of my hair because it was drying it out. I posted about a good experience. I had it pressed for the trim. Well, I washed it out yesterday and with my hair's natural shrinkage, it was alot shorter than I realized it would be nappy. I can barely do anything with it. It's not a twa but it's too short for my bun unless I do something to stretch it out.

My routine had become so simple and now I have to go back to the methods I used when my hair was shorter. Plus its hot today and I don't feel like fighting with my hair. I might as well order a hair piece online or something because i'm soo upset I don't even want to look at my hair.

Hey, I was in the same boat as you about 7 months ago. I wanted my hair layered and got a salon to layer it. My shoulder-length hair went to mid-neck length hair.

I actually cried sometimes. I couldn't put my hair in a bun or ponytail either. It was even hard to do rollersets. 2 months later after the cut, I was able to do a rollerset. My main style was flipping it up with a Conair large barrel curling iron so since it was a cute hairstyle, I didn't worry too much about my length. Then when I got my relaxer in February 2004 I think, I was amazed at how much my hair grew. I got my next relaxer April 2004 and my hair touched my shoulders. Right now, I have been 6 weeks without a relaxer, and I cant wait til I get my next one to see how much my hair has grown.

So I suggest that u do not worry about it (which is hard when u want long hair RIGHT NOW

). Do whatever it takes to retain length. If you want to do the flipped-up hairstyle, I would advise you not to use curling irons like I did. Right now, I think my ends are suffering from the heat I used to use.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Don't get too upset, just know that your hair can now grow out healthier than before because of your trim. Since you can't put your hair in a bun anymore, try to use rollers at night and wear the curly look until you can do a bun.

Thank you for sharing your story with me, Poohbear. I want to cry right now but i'm trying to remember that it will grow back. I miss my easy bun

Thanks for your encouragement again JenniferMD. Your username reminds me that I need to be worried about my med school applications and not my hair right now.

Girl - I am sorry to hear about that. Truly. I'm sure your hair will grow back fast.

Hi ... i was in a similar situation like urs abt a year ago. My hairdresser said i needed to trim my ends because they had split ends and she ended up cutting off around 5-6inches and put it in a layered style which i didnt want. One advice...u will not get rid of split ends by cutting them trust me and if u decide u want to cut them make sure she barely cuts off anything (maybe .5inches). If u cut split ends they are just going to grow back.

I feel your pain. My disaster cut was in late November. Its now June and my hair has recovered nicely. Don't worry just love and give your hair proper care and it will grow back in no time. Back in november, in order to wear my ponytail I had to gel my hair down but now I can do that with no issue. By the time holloween comes this will be just a memory.

I like that way of thinking about it

By the end of the year I should be where I was before or even better

I don't think that's true. If you cut your split ends, you should make sure to take care of your ends so as not have split ends occur again. Split ends don't "grow." Maybe I misunderstood what you meant but that just doesn't make sense to me.
