I have an event coming up this weekend and I need a style for my hair. I'm talking stop and stare style. The only thing I've come up with is Maxigliding my hair and curling it, but that might be a disaster because I've never curled my hair before. PLEASE HELP ME!!

How formal is formal? I think a twist out or braid out would be nice since this is the season for curls, curls, and more curls. Well if you are going to Masiglide and curl your hair, I suggest that you try it out first since this will be your first time curling it.

How long is your hair? I wore a twist out set in a wedding last summer. I got a lot of compliments on it!

You can twist set and pin it into an updo, that's always cute.

my hair is about shoulder length or a little past it. formal like i'm wearing a pretty dress and heels. the twist out set sounds good. how do i do it?

Just twist your hair the night before and undo the twists in the morning. IMO, the smaller you do the twists the cuter the style turns out :)

When I had it done for the wedding, my hair dresser parted my hair ear to ear to create a top and bottom section. She used setting lotion and proceded to do flat two strand twists on my hair (like cornrows, but with two strands instead of thress) on the two sections, parting in rows going straight back from forehead to the center part, and the other section, rows from center part to the back. I then dried under the dryer, unraveled and fluffed.

I have a formal event (wedding) to go to in 2 weeks, so I'm watching this thread closely. Questions: do you put any product on your hair before twisting? And, can this be done on dry hair and have it still turn out nice the next day?

Did she do this right after a wash? Would you recommend a setting lotion? I don't have any right now. I'm 13 months post-relaxer and currently use lots of leave-in conditioner after washing just to comb my hair.

Yes, she washed and conditioned my hair and twisted wet. You can do without it, setting lotion will just give you a stronger hold and maybe slightly different end results as far as the "look". I've never done it on relaxed hair.

I want something that has a smooth yet defined look. I don't want any crispy hair either. LOL I think I'm going to do a test run a few days before. I'll let you know how it all turns out. Thanks!

I was going to suggest a twist out also, or a cute updo. I attended my brothers wedding this past weekend and I did a straw set, it came out really well.

The Spring 2006 issue of BRAIDS & BEAUTY has instructions and pictures of the twist out styles mentioned above. I'm going to practice the flat twist this weekend so that I can see how my hair looks prior to the wedding.

When I set my hair while it's wet my curls tend to get really tight. I usually end up looking like Medusa. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get looser curls with a twistout?

Twist on dry hair, and lightly spritz with water or setting lotion after.
