FORGET THIS, I'M GOING NATURAL!!!

I've been on my hair journey for almost 2 years now. I started at ear length and now I'm at shoulder length. Big Woop right, lol. Well my hair just started to grow a lot recently, it was thicker, longer and healthier than I've ever seen it. But than I had to get a relaxer, I used the ORS lye relaxer on my hair, and ever since than my hair has been falling out in clumps, it is so fried and thin. No matter what I do and trust me I've tried everything the hair just keeps coming out. I said to myself "wow, all that work, all that dedication for one stupid relaxer to mess up everything". I said to myself "NO MORE". I gave my self two choices I either go natural, or stop my hair journey, because I honestly can't take anymore setbacks. So I decided to go natural, right now I'm going to transition until summer, and than I'm going to do the big chop. I'm excited. Will I be embarrassed with a teeny weeny afro? Eh, not really, confidence is the key. I just have to make sure I get my eyebrows done on a regular, put some lip gloss on, wear some big earrings now and again and call it a day. I'll rock the Afrocentric look for a while if I have to. So yeah I'm excited, lol. I think my hair will grow faster, and I will be able to retain length better because my hair is not rubbing on my clothes. I'll keep you guys posted. HHJ!!

*Hugs* Yes, never give up on your hair. You love it and it will love you back. Believe that. Going natural is good. I love being natural. And the shrinkage does help to retain length. Keep us updated on your transition, and WELCOME!

Good luck on your transition :yep: Welcome to the club
That great attitude is really going to be toward your advantage!

Welcome to the Dark Side...

And BTW, Ear Length to Shoulder Length actually IS a big deal, trust me.

Congrats on your decision. I hope you are ready for the new road you are taking. Going natural is not a cake walk, it's takes real patience.

Congratulations on your decision!!! You are so right about the accessories... they really brings my fro out! Good luck on your journey and happy hair growing!!!

I love your enthusiasm! We need more of that in life! Not letting the setbacks set you back! Just stay focused on the long term goal of getting rid of the relaxer once and for all and start fresh! You never know by summer once you decide to bc you may not be sporting a teeny weeny afro after all! That's like 6 mo new growth! Your afro once you bc may not be as teeny as you may think! Thank you for stepping closer to the natural side of things!

I wish you much luck. Its sad when we work so hard on our hair just to face a setback. I just BC'd yesterday and I'm not gonna lie, my heart is in my mouth. I'm afraid of what can happen with my hair. I plan on doing protective styling and I hope those 'styles' don't damage my hair. I have my fingers crossed for both of us. Please keep us posted on your journey.

I am LOVING your attitude, and I'm sure you will look fabulous with your TWA. You'll have to keep us posted on your progress!

There's so much support on this site for transitioners. You'll be more than fine. All the best!

That is great. I think that transitioning will be the hardest part. I loved wearing my hair really short when I did my big chop.I miss it sometimes. I got tons of compliments. I always had on big earrings and mascara..lol

i am right there with you. my relaxed hair grazes armpits and quits. my hair is fine and my ends thin out. i have been 3 months without a relaxer and i am going for 1 year.
my current techniques include: coconut oil in my conditioners and tons of leave ins. i like karen's body beautiful hair milk and aveda damage remedy mixed with avocado oil.

also i got a steamer from ebay and my new growth is sooo soft.
a also have a sedu flat iron as backup

i just cut 1.5 inches of relaxed growth and plan to cut every 3 months until all the relaxer is gone.

I know exactly how you feel. I have been on my hair journey for close to 3 years, and feel like i have so little to show for it due to all kinds of setbacks. I've finally decided that I'm going natural but without BC-ing. Good luck transitioning

Sorry that happened but glad it inspired a good decision. I noticed you said you couldn't handle another setback, I feel you but I wanna make sure you realize just because you go natural doesn't mean no setbacks. We have our share of them too, with breakage, single strand knots, and heat damage. Being natural is great but make sure you're prepared. It's a lot of work but the rewards are endless.
