I wanted to know if I am buying all the products that i need to relax my hair with affirm...which products are neccessary to complete the whole process. If there's anyone who thinks that another relaxer is good let me know. I haven't had a touch-up in 8 weeks. For me thats a long time until I learned that prolonging the time in between relaxers is better for the hair from the ladies on this forum. Any info would be great! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I relax my hair with Mizani at home and I bought the neutralizing shampoo (Mizani) and just use my regular moisturizing con afterwards.

Wow really? Did it turn out good for you? I had Mizani done at a salon but would like to try t at home. I'm so used to using boxed perms that I have no idea how to use professional perms at home but would like to try. Does the Mizani come with Activator already in the mixture or do I have to buy that too?

The Affirm swoop down will be coming...
but I'm looking at

Step 1: Protecto Application:
Apply an amount about the size of silver dollar into palm and rub hands together. Gently work throughout entire head of hair, especially to the new growth area. Do not massage to avoid scalp irritation, Comb through gently using shampoo comb to distribute.

Step 2: Creme Relaxer Application:
Apply ample amount of relaxer to thinly-parted sections of hair using an application brush or back of a rattail comb. Begin with the back sections, working downards from the crown area. Proceed to the front sections, working from the crown forward. Apply to the hairline areas last. Avoid applying the relaxer directly to the scalp. For retouches, apply relaxer creme to new growth only. Avoid overlapping onto previously relaxed hair. After application is complete, smooth the relaxer with the back of a rattail comb, using thin partings and working in the same direction as during application. After desired straightening is achieved, rinse relaxer completely from hair with warm water.

Step 3 :5 in 1 Reconstructor and/or Positive Link Application:
Affirm 5 in 1 Reconstructor if hair is fine or limp; Positive Link if hair is medium or coarse; 5 in 1 and Positive Link, in half-and-half mixture if hair is slightly damaged. Wait five minuts and rinse hair well.

Step 4 :Normalizing Shampoo:
Shampoo all areas of hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly and repeat. (Lather will be pink if relaxer traces remain, and white when hair is completely neutralized.) Style and Finish with KeraCare maintenace items.

I use the lye version (mizani mild to be exact), so there is no activator..that's only for no-lye relaxers.

It turned out a little underprocessed this last time it was done because I wasn't based and I have a sensitive scalp, but normally it turns out great!

I didn't want to change your mind about using the affirm system though /images/graemlins/smile.gif I bought my mizani from www.sheldeez.com and right now they are having a 20% off salon products sale (or at least they were a week or so ago)..so now is definately the time to buy if you are in the markeg!

You'd be pretty set with Mizani or Affirm (never tried but heard great things about both). The fact that you have experience with Mizani is probably a good thing as well.

I'm a Vitale girl, and have been for about 10 years. I use the Regular strength w/Lye, along w/the Positive Conditioner and Neutralizing Shampoo.

DatJerseyDyme- Thanks for the info on the Sheldeez sale! I've been to the salon (only to buy products) and they're really nice! They were one of the few places I could find the complete line of Keracare products back when I was using it. They have so much stuff there /images/graemlins/smile.gif!

I've only purchased from them one time, but I am very pleased with the service. They even taped everything to make sure half of the product didn't end up in the bottom of the mail truck! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

NICE! They're that way way in person as well. The guy I spoke with was totally into customer service. Wish I could remember his name!

The only thing I actually purchased was the relaxer and their neutralizing shampoo. I used my own base, and conditioner (Nexxus Humectress) after my hair was neutralilzed.

I was wondering the exact same thing, I got my hair relaxed at the salon with Mizani, and loved the results. I have been searching on the internet for the instructions for the Mizani relaxer system for quite some time./images/graemlins/user.gif But, I haven't found anything. It's like it is some big secret or something, on the other hand I found plenty of info about the Affirm relaxer system.

I was actually looking up info abuot the system as well and couldn't find anything at ALL! When I was going to the salon, I was based with Arosci (sp), relaxed with the mizani, neutralized with the phormula 7 (I think that's the name) neutralizing shampoo, and then deep conditioned with a Mizani conditioner (never paid attention to what it was). I didn't buy the mizani conditioner for the relaxation process, however, because I HATE the smell..So I use my own base, and just bought the relaxer and neutralizing shampoo. I really wish I could find more info on the system though.

I had 6 steps. Open the floodgates /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
1. Vaseline to base
2. Affirm Protecto for hair
3. Affirm mild Relaxer cream
4. Affirm 5 in 1
5. Affirm Neutralizer
6. Keracare Humecto to condition

No more than the average perm. I get it at Sally for about $5.99. the other products (Positive Conditioner and Neutralizing shampoo) are about $3 respectively, so plan to pay about $15 for all 3. I get 2 treatments of the relaxer in one jar and since there's no mixing you can just stick it under the sink until you need it again. The other products last several months, since you only use the at relaxer time.
