Please tell me what is so great about them. I have been thinking about purchasing this system but know nothing about it and can't do a rollerset to save my life. However, I do want to learn to rollerset because so many of you say it is better for the hair and I have noticed that most of you use the caruso rollers....so please tell me anything you can about this item. How you use it, when you use it, benefits to the hair, any pics of hair done with these rollers, etc.

Thank you for any and all help with this. /images/graemlins/notworthy.gif
Oh by the way, my hair is a little past shoulders and it is relaxed.

I love my Caruso rollers because I can create nice looking curly styles without having to use a curling iron or flat iron on my hair. I usually use them on air dried hair that I washed the previous evening and let dry overnight. I put them in when I wake up, then shower and finish getting ready, then take them out before I leave the house.

One thing that I have to be mindful of when I use them, is making sure that my hair is completely dry when I take them out. If my hair isn't completely dry, my hair will frizz.

Another thing I usually do is add a little bit of Lottabody setting lotion to the water in the steam unit. This helps the curls hold and last all day, but it doesn't make my hair hard at all.

I have a pic of my hair after using the Caruso rollers in my album. It's in the September 2004 folder. Hope this helps.

I use to be a die hard Caruso fan then I purchased the Vidal Sasson steam rollers. They are much better in my opinion. I like to use steam rollers b/c they are way less damaging than regular heat styling and the curls lasts longer. Also since I airdry, its really helps to tame my hair when I can just pop in the rollers. I have pictures of the Vidal ones in my album.

I purchased the Vidal Sasson rollers and "attempted" to use them on my natural, pressed hair...they worked fine but then after awhile my hair frizzed. I then tried them on my mom's relaxed hair. For some reason there wasn't much curl.

I loooooooove Caruso Steam Rollers. I only use them when I have some last minute event and need to do something with my hair. Definitely make sure that your hair is completely dry before removing the rollers.

@Rachel- that setting lotion sounds like a great idea. Too bad I will be in braids for the next couple of months.

Your hair frizzed because of one of two things: either you put too much water in the container, and rather than steamed, the curlers were wet; or you did not give them enough time to dry in your hair before you took them down.

On your mom's relaxed hair, if the hair is too oily, the curl does not hold as well.

Thanks Rachel for the tips on the Caruso rollers. Last time you posted you said if your hair does not get dry then it will frizz. Mine does that too. The only problem is that my hair holds on to moisture and it takes forever and a day to dry. /images/graemlins/angry2.gif I have to sit under a bonnet dryer and then use the blowdryer to dry my hair. It is reallly pretty once I let my hair dry throroughly but it is like rollersetting.

Rachel, can you use the Caruso rollers on texturized hair without the hair frizzing?

I'm not sure, since my hair is relaxed. Hopefully, someone who has used steam rollers on texturized hair will chime in.

Thanks, I must didn't let them dry long enough then because I used the exact amount of water that is stated in the instructions.

Thanks for all the replies ladies...Can you get this at Walmart? I'm in Canada and we don't have a Sally's. Maybe I should go check ebay??

I don't know Asha if Walmart carries them or not, I haven't seen them there. I've only seen them at Walgreens (if there is one in your area) and Sally's. I use them all of the time!

Hey Asha-

Did you ever find the rollers? I just found a complete set today at a Thrift Store for $2.02!!!!! While I was doing a search to see what the rollers were all about I hit on an eBay link so........

I had never used them before and I also have some questions I didn't see asked.

Should I use some sort of leave-in before I used the system? Has anyone added a little oil to their hair before steaming? I don't want dry/dull curls and I'm wondering if I should lock some moisture in before using? I hope this makes since. I'm tired but had to get my LHCF fix before the day was over with. I just had to share with my Hair Sistahs the great deal I got!
I'm very anxious to try this system. It will definitely help eliminate the curling iron then I'll be on a true NO DIRECT HEAT regimen.

Thanks for letting me babble-

I'm a true PJ I have these rollers and have never used them I guess I will try these over the Holiday weekend.

What a great deal!!! I use some oil when I do my Caruso rollers cause it works out better for me, no dry, frizzy ends. I also have a pic of my Caruso roller set in my photo album.

Thanks Cincy, I'm gonna try the oil this morning.

DShy:

Here's a pic. This is a newer model, my system is about 10 years old and still works!

I bought a new system for myself for Christmas after my old one broke (it still "works", I split the plastic base). I love my Caruso Rollers, they are so dependable when I need quick curls without using any heat. I have a couple of pics in my album using it today for only 10 minutes. I really needed that extra moisture in my hair too.
