how often do you use it?
I just received mine today, and have not flatironed my hair in weeks...I don't want to damage it in any way with this thing.

How hot should it be set?
Is it really the same as flatironing, or is it actually better?
And since I'm stretching, can it really handle the new growth situation?

I know, alot of questions...TIA! :)

Hello,

I use mine 2x a week after I rollerset, use the blowdryer to straighten the curls out a bit, then I do 2 quick passes from root to 1/2 way down the length.

I have found that the flat plate works better on my hiar b/c it doesn't have the teeth that snag my hair. That, and the flat plate leaves my hair glossier.

A trick is to hit the steam button just before you clamp down on your hai close to the scalp - DO NOT hit the steam button while the Maxi is at the scalp beause you will get steam burns. The instruction say not to place the iron less than 3 inches close to the scalp, but then how do you deal with new growth??? It also says not to use the flat plate with the steam, but I do and have done so for a very long time with no ill effects. (If you look, the tooth plate doesn't have steam holes, and neither does the flat plate, so what's the difference?)

Definitely use a heat protectant!

Good luck!

A

PS: Give it as many tries as possible - I had mine for eight months (sitting in the closet after only 2 tries) before I got the hang of it. Now I wouldn't part with it for ANY reason!

I have only used it once and before I reach my hair goal I plan to only use it sparingly..about once a month at most.
The setting I used was 3.

I want to get one. Some naturals on the board had good success with getting their hair straight with the maxi glide.

I alternate between my maxiglide or solia once a week.

Lmao@not using the steam w/ the flat plate...that's all I use to do....I just started using the teeth plate a few months ago...I've had my maxiglide since 12/04

I'm natural and I got the hang of it the first [and only time] I used it. I bought it in January. You can check my album out for pictures.

I only used it one because I'm lazy. LOL. I was on break when I used it. Once I got back to school I was too busy and tired to do it. I plan on doing it sometime soon. I'm also concious of the weather. If it's raining and snowing my hair will not be flat ironed.

Can you believe I use it once a week so it looks presentable for church? I know, i know...! bUT i LOVE IT! :D I am no longer dependent on stylists and I have more control over my hair, time and money.

Still, I ain't crazy. I have been monitoring my hair closely and babying it first thing Monday morning for the rest of the week...like in a stationary ponytail! I love the thing, and because my hair is straightened, I actually lose less hair due to less tangling from when my hair is natural.

Still, use a good protein conditioner like Aubrey Organics GPB weekly (a MUST in my opinion). Then I follow it with abba moisturizing conditioner. Also, i use steam which is supposed to add moisture. Yes I do clamp down on the roots with steam with no problem!! Maybe all the thickness of my hair is absorbing the steam and protecting my scalp or something (lol)! I am monitoring still to see how this approach goes. If my hair suffers (Lord forbid!), I will cut it off, get a perm and start over with rollersets (God forbid again! :D). But thank God things are well, so I don't believe it will be necessary. I will post if I have issues.

When I first used it, I did it with the teeth. Of course I was watching the hair loss! Not too bad cuz I was watching (lol) and careful! Then I tried it with the smooth plates for the last two weeks. I think I got more sheen with the teeth. So this week I will switch back to teeth this weekend and see if I get more sheen and less reversion (another issue cuz we raise up a shout in the church house! :D)

HTH! HHG!

I use mine maybe once every two weeks most of the time. Now I'm only using it montly because I'm cutting back on heat. It should straighten your new growth no problem. I use it on the first setting and sometimes I cut it off so it can cool down some. It gets real hot.

I have a Maxi glide and it straightened my 5 months post hair...

I use it on setting 4, I use it very sparingly, every few months because I am lazy...But it's great...To be honest, I still have yet to get a hang of the size, so I use my Mini glide also....Both are great!

i tend to use mine maybe once every 3 months or so... set on 4... i have yet to figure out the steam function (i have no idea where to put the water and i don't know where the directions have disappeared to and the cd didn't come with my iron)... i also have never used the flat plates (i assume they're hiding somewhere with the directions)..... my roots are never the problem though, they get super straight even at 11 and 12 weeks post tex... it's the rest of the hair (esp in the back)... but it's definitely a keeper for me... i heart that thing...

to use the steam function, remove the transparent blue container on the maxiglide, flip the black soft plastic thing out of the hole, file with water, put the black thing back in the hole, and reattach to the maxiglide. Once heated use in hair like you would normally once 3" from end please blue button for steam.

I have used it about 3 times since I bought it in December, but not in the past 2 months because it's been raining and I didn't want to bother.

I love my Maxiglide. I only use it once every 2-3 months when I have lots of new growth.
Setting on 5 and I use only with the teeth

Great news...

So the purpose of this is just straightening?

I use my flat-iron to straighten and to curl to eliminate unnecessary heat.

I haven't used my maxiglide yet but I wanted to know how do you get your edges straight?
Prettykinks how did you get your ponytail so smooth? And you're natural too..nice :)

I only do my ponytail in the shower. My hair doesn't want to move if I try to do anything to it dry. For the puff in my avater, I washed my hair then put in some plaits and let them dry overnight, then I took them out in the morning.

I use my maxiglide on 6.
But I HAVE to blowdry my hair first with a denman or the maxiglide will pull my hair right out.

Thank you ladies for the information and suggestions! :)

I finally used it last night...and all I can say is WOW.
It handled my new growth like nobody's bizness! And my hair came out nice and shiny.

I started with the teeth, but it felt like it was pulling my hair too much...the flat plate and steam was much better.
I'll be using this thing again!

be careful, i did the wrong thing and put mines to the highest setting, like a idiot..and burnt my hair, i have some pics in my album..just a small section though..most of it reverted back, but i had to clip some just recently. I havent used it again since, but i will one day.
