I've noticed some of you ladies don't use towels on your hair at all during your wash/condi sessions.

My question is if your hair is dripping wet how are your products able to reach and penetrate your hair shaft? (in your opinion). OR tell me about the difference(s) you've experienced since you stopped using towels. I would like to know because I'm considering doing this.

i've been considering trying the no towel thing, too...so, i'd like some insight on this stuff, too!!

I dont use a towel to dry my hair off. I twist out some of the excess water but it is still pretty wet. I usualy put a towel around my back so it wont drip

I like my hair to be wet and then apply my products because I feel like its sealing in the water/moisture. I also think my products are distributed better when my hair is wet.

So when its dries its soft and moisturized until my next wash.

ITA with this reasoning. I get way better results without the towel. My friend uses a t-shirt to absorb the excess water. Even that works better than a towel. I just gently squeeze the water out of my hair before I step out of the shower and the dripping is not that bad. By the time I've applied my products or styled, it's no longer dripping anyway.

I think using a towel causes frizzies and dryness that some ladies have problems with.

I also think it takes away some of the curl definition.

I dont use a towel either. I just squeeze the water out of my hair when Im done in the shower. Then I apply my products. I think that the products do penetrate better while its air drying

I think I'm going to try this method tonight. I'm in braids right now. Can you use the no-towel method on braided hair to keep the frizzies at bay? Just curious.

DITTO, I've been doing this for a few years, eventhough many hair experts recommend towel drying, so the products can better absorb in your hair instead of mixing with all of the water. It makes sense, but I still prefer no towel drying.

I don't touch the towel either. After my final rinse I squeeze the water out, but my hair holds water like a sponge, so I do what I can then I twist it up and clip it until I'm done washing. The water drips but doesn't bother me much. I apply other wet stuff which makes it drip more, but then I seal my ends w/oil and butter and all the dripping stops. I hope that means it's all locking into my hair

! I read someplace, maybe in the Ouidad book that you should towel dry your hair sparingly, if at all, b/c it roughens the cuticle of the hair. Our goal is to make sure it says smooth.

Ditto for me!

i've stopped using towels on my hair also. i wring my hair out gently with a creamy leave-in conditioner (usually my regular conditioner). as i'm wringing the water out, i'm adding conditioner at the same time. some of the conditioner comes out also, which is okay with me. i've noticed a huge difference in my hair since i stopped using the towel.

What i do is grab my hair and wring it out the way you would do with a wet mop
laugh.gif
That seems to remove plenty of excess water for me. Besides even if you towel dry your hair is still somewhat damp right? Anyway a little left over water is actually good for me because it helps the conditioner spread better and i dont have to use as much. I place the towel around my shoulder to catch the drips.

Thanks so much for this tip ladies. I was already using my towel sparingly, but now I think I'll stop using it altogether!

Yes the no towel method is a must if you can to keep the frizzies and flyaways at bay! A couple of weeks ago I stopped towel "squeezing" my hair, and now my curls are very defined with little to no frizz because of this. My ends are no longer dry and crispy feeling. Now all I do is apply products and soaking wet hair and let it air dry. My hair is super soft now! Im glad that I tried this method

I'm really kinda laughing hard about the shaking hard like a dog.

I don't use a towel either - I do put one around my neck just to keep water off the bed but I don't wring my hair out at all.

I forgot all about this technique. I'm conditioning my hair right now so I'll do the no towel thing in a few minutes.

What a difference! I'll do this from now on. I'll find out later when my hair dries if I have less frizz. I have a feeling already that I will have less. Using the towel before was always just a habit.
