Was it just the new growth that changed in texture/ softened up, or did the entire strand soften/change in texture?

It went all the way down my strands. My hair was slightly underprocessed (even for a texturizer), but after MSM my new growth and texturized hair mellowed out.

New growth only fro me.

Honestly, I don't see how it can make the entire length softer. I mean if my new growth is softer, my hair is easier to handle as a whole, but I just don't see how it can make the entire length softer. Makes no sense

new growth only. but maybe i should say that mine is not exactly "softer"...i feel like that might connotate some idea of smooth new growth that's laying down on my head. my ng just seems to be "fluffier" and less rough, if that makes sense...

MSM felt and acted like a coating that went from the root to the tip. Silica does the same thing. For some people taking flaxseed internally helped with dry ends. I only had to take MSM for 2 weeks before I noticed the difference. What's that 1/4 of an inch? You'd have to wait 2 months to get an inch of soft hair.

My thoughts are ... if sebum can be distributed down the length, anything else you excrete from your scalp can.

New growth. In fact my sister commented on the softness of my ng on Sat. (I have braids and she was trying to tame the ng with gel). I'm a couple days shy of 7 months into transitioning and I know there is a difference from the first 4 months of ng compared to the last 3 months (started taking msm in April).

I totally agree with this description. I blowdry my hair after every weekly wash and i now notice that my blowdried roots blend well with my relaxed hair. and when my roots do nap up (usually about day 6), my roots haven't napped up, but just waved up.

Yall got me thinking. Cause I did a 3 month stretch recently and about 1 month in, I started taking MSM. I noticed that my new growth didn't have as tight of a curl and took less "work" to make it lay down. But, this weekend I did my relaxer and in all of the 12+ years that I have been relaxing have I had a relaxer take as well as this one did. Until I read this tread I chalked it up to the new product, Mizani. But could the MSM make the relaxer "take" better?

makes no sense to me but my entire length is softer, the texture's certainly changed!:perplexed

One more question to those who've noticed softer hair.......

How much are you taking/did it take for you to see a difference?

New growth only...took about a month for me to notice a difference. I started out doing 1000 mg for 10 days, then I went up to 2000 mg for 14 days, and now I take 3000 mg/day and plan to remain at that dosage.

I noticed softer new growth only. It's crazy because my new growth is now softer and more manageable than the rest of my hair.

I noticed this after taking 4,000mgs consistently for about a month. After that I've upped my dosage to between 6,000mgs and 8,000mgs, but I will stay put at 6,000mgs from now on. This is definitely a keeper for me, and I don't have any breakouts so I don't mind it. I mix it in with protein shakes.

My enitre strand changed, and I didn't notice it until I got a relaxer the other day. My hair is straight but it has body. And the strands are smooth as can be.

i got 3c new growth when i was taking 1000 mgs a day. its like it ups your texture one level. my 4b parts softened up to 4a too. i dont take it anymore. now i just use hair products with msm in them.

I didn't think MSM was doing anything to my hair until recently. I've been taking 1/2 tsp per day (2.6 g) since the beginning of june, and my roots are softer. It hasn't changed the curl pattern or anything, my roots are just softer/silkier. Soon I'll be upping the dosage to 3.6 g per day when I start taking Skin Eternal Plus vitamins.

I've been taking MSM since 9/1/05. I have 5z hair and I noticed that it's no lnonger packed tight. My crown area is growing in almost straight:eek:

I take 3000mg of powdered Puritan's Pride. Now on sale buy 1 get 2 free:)

oooh, from where?

Now I take 3,000-4,000mg/day. I started with 1,500mg/day and I noticed a change within 2 weeks.
