I agree Ladies. No more heat, No more split ends. Strong shiny airdried hair. But when you want to wear it down without looking like a wild woman, what do YOU do?

I think if you are LIMITING heat, then every once in a while when you wear it down, then it should be ok. I wear my hair up most of the time, but when I do want a nice bouncy or straight style, then the heat is my buddy!

But this is only a few times a year. The rest of the time, it's tucked away into mystery.

I dont think its necessary to use heat when doing protective styles like buns, braids, updos, or whatever. There are ways you can airdry if you want to wear your hair down too. Like MizAvalon said...it's best to limit the amount of heat u use. so using a hooded dryer for a rollerset or a blowdryer or flat iron to get a straight look should be okay...as long as u dont do it all the time.

I've completely stopped using direct heat on my hair at all. But when I want to wear my hair out, I ponytail it up, pin the length forward, and sit under the dryer. I used this method to dry because it' staightens my hair and gives it a smooth look. If I want curls, I'll use Caruso rollers for that.

I typically rollerset and since I have ALLLLLL day to work with it - I can either airdry or use a hooded dryer on cool (just for focused circulating air).

If I know I want to wear my hair down on a certain day, I wrap it the night before. This usually gets it pretty straight, and if I want it straighter, I use my chi on the lowest setting to get it right. HTH.:)

braidouts and bantu knots are good styles for working with the texture of your hair instead of against it. Other than that, I think roller setting under the dryer and then wrapping and putting saran wrap around your head and sitting under the dryer for a few minutes again before unwrapping is a NICE sleek smooth style with body and bounce and shine and all of that good stuff! My stylist did this and its been mentioned here before too, Im not sure what exactly it does, but the saran wrap makes a difference in shine and body.

Since I dont know how to rollerset im forced to blowdry and flat iron to get my hair straight. If I have a lot of time i'll wash my hair the day before and let it airdry in two bantu knots overnight. In the morning I run the blowdryer on cool and my hair is straight in less than 10 min. After that I bump the ends with a flat iron. But like the other ladies I only do this ever so often so it's ok. Also like Leslie said braid outs and bantu knots are ver cute ways of wearing your hair down without using heat.

I do dry my hair in a single bantu knot which I put a phony pony tail on ususally. If I decide to wear it out, I just loosen the bantu knot, and I have nice curly waves. If i want curls or a bob, I use the VS steam rollers.

I've joined the forum 2 years ago and as time went on and after being introduced to new products that work with our type of hair, I found heat to be less and less of a necessity in my haircare regime. Now I have found that serum works wonders for getting my hair straight along with the ponytail method.

What kind of serum do you use?

where do you get caruso rollors? and how do they work? are they like those heated rollors?

You can get Caruso rollers at Sally's. They use steam to infuse moisture into your hair and set your curls in 5 minutes or so. They are not heated rollers.

Bump

I just wanted to thank everybody, I got busy the other day. I hear some really great suggestions, pony tail under the dryer, a little more serum. Thanks for the ideas and the thread.
