When you ladies flat iron do you use a heat protection serum? If you do how do you use it with the moiturizer. I mean I use a moisturizer in the morning and at night. Should I use moiturizer first then the serum or what should I do?

Thanks made scientist.

use your serum and then add any moisturizers after you flat iron . you dont want to add any oil on your hair before flat ironing either (think of sizzling bacon lol). flat ironing with moisturizers made did not lay my hair down at all.

yup, i use a serum when i flat iron. i just got onto chi silk infusion, and it's GREAT, but if you want a much cheaper alternative, try ion silk drops (from sally's beauty supply).

it's best to flat iron on clean, dry (duh) hair; the cleaner the hair, the nicer the end result. and you can use a daily moisturizer, but you'll get bouncier hair if you don't use a lot of moisturizer right before iron touches hair.

i.e., wash, apply leave-in conditioner, dry as usual, apply a bit of serum, then flat iron.

but i don't flat iron but 2 or 3x a year, so maybe one of LHCF's flat iron queens can chime in?

I just flat iron today and loved the results. I flat iron once a month and I have thick coarse hair so my hair takes the once a month hit well (its still growing, thick, and flourishing). I do a few dc and/or conditioner washes about a week prior. Then on the day I flat iron, I use shikakai shampoo bar (doesnt strip moisture from hair) and conditioner wash. Hair should be very moisturized and soft. I applied Lacio Lacio Leave-In, Next Image Condition and Detangler Spray, Biosilk Thermal Protectant, and Biosilk Silk Therapy (serum). I then blow dry on lowest or medium setting with comb attachment. Comb should slip right through hair. I adjust heat based on the section, some portion are thicker and heat needs to get to the roots. This time I didnt lose alot of hair at all (mostly sheds) so I am really happy. I apply a little my serum on dry hair. Then I flat iron with my Sedu. After flat iron, I apply Elasta QP Mango Butter and KeraCare Oil Sheen Spray.

I got to play with my APL hair today and it felt so good. (In pin curl now:look:)

All done. The key is to simply protect the hair. So products dont matter just as long as you are properly replenishing the moisture that blow drying and flat ironing causes you to lose. I air dry and bun on any other day so using heat less results in much thicker hair.

I just discovered SunSilk's Straighten up Creme. *See Siggy* I put it in my wet hair and spray VO5 Heat Defense on my ends. I blow dry and that's it. I use no more products. When I flat iron I only need to run my iron over my hair once! My hair is so moist and bouncy now!

If you are relaxed then you may only want to use a small amount of product.

You should try it, a bottle is only 4 bucks and I think there are coupons online too.

you can use both lightly to make sure your hair does not come out too flat and lifeless.

right now i'm using a blow drying spray so I don't add anything else, I flat iron and my hair is protected.

Joico silk result is a really good spray for heat protection for flat ironing, it also makes your hair flat iron into silk. you use it on each section you flat iron (once hair is dry).

or you can use the leave in heat serum that you put in while hair is still wet.
