Fish oils are a source of Omega 3 acids which are necessary for good health. A lack of sufficient Omega oils leads to ill health and one of the outward signs is dry, lifeless/dull hair which is bound to be weak. So yes, taking fish oils will help you have healthy hair. And the emphasis is more on getting 3 than 6 (although we need both) because our diet provides so much more 6 and hardly any 3.
Yes, cod liver oil is a great source of Omega 3 acids too, but it also provides vitamin D. It is easy to get too much vitamin D in summer because the sun provides plenty of it, so it's better if you want to take cod liver to wait to do so in the colder months and to take fish oils or flaxseed oil instead in the warmer months. This way you won't risk reaching toxicity levels in your Vitamin D consumption.
Do you take any fish oils? I had thought about it, but I'm a little concerned about the "burp" factor. I read somewhere that you could belch that fishy taste for hours after you have taken it! YUCK.
No, I don't take fish oils. I take flaxseed oil, this brand. (Dosage is 2-6 capsules with each meal (I take 2 or 3 capsules three times a day) and 6 capsules provide 2907 mg of Omega 3, 918 mg of Omega 6 and 918 of Omega 9. Once opened you have to store it in the fridge. What attracted me to this brand was that it was cold-pressed, unrefined and organic...which are adjectives that, to me, spell "high quality".)
