I did some twists last night after I DCed and dry my hair with a cool blow dryer. I parted small sections and dampened it with some Sta-Sof-Fro, sealed with mango butter. They came out nicer than I expected.
Btw this is my first update pic since I BCed. in June. The headband I made myself. I got tired of paying for accessories. 3 buttons, craft plastic head band, satin ribbon and glue gun.

So pretty Tamrin and they look so full! BlaqBella I did Nonie's method last night. But on wet hair. :ohwell: So they were short and funky looking. So I'm gonna rock a twistout tomorrow and then do the twists again on dry stretched hair. Then I'll take pics. I'm sure they'll look much better. I took pics with the way it is now. I'll post pics later.

That's usually what I think of my twists when I do them on wet. :giggle: Here's a comparison:

Tamrin, I love how yours came out, esp the front. Did you comb part the front?

And I love your headband. I swear, some of you ladies are so dang creative. I would never think to do something like that. Love it!

Thanks so much. I comb parted the hair. One row at a time horizontally. The headband is easy to make. I just wanted something unique. I have lots of them and give away a lot.

Nonie BlaqBella Here are my twists. The first one is while it was dry and the second after it was dunked in water.

I didn't have enough courage to rock em so I did a twistout today. The flash makes me look like I'm showing alot of scalp!

@pookaloo83, I actually love the second one. No I'm not biased at all. After a few washes, it gets better. Really it does. You will find what happens is when you CW or DC and rinse and let drip again and again, the twists grow fatter albeit shorter but they also start to have some weight so that when you move your head, the twists will move and therefore overlap in a way that doesn't leave the gaps always there.

Here's a suggestion that I think will make you really pleased with the results. Don't worry about perfect parts, but if you started from say right hand nape corner and with a comb (Yes, I'll let you use a comb) you carved a clamshell part by parting in a circular part like you wanted to have this shape:
ClamShellXLS7
(Borrowed from here)

And twisted it. Then curved another arch beside that so you'd have a look like two arches next to itch other:
arches_series4.jpg
(Borrowed from here)

And so on so that along your nape you have a row of arches. And then starting from the left and at the apex of the first arch, carve a circular arch with your comb that ends on the apex of the second arch. So this time, your arch or clamshell is sitting kinder on top of the space between the first two. And then carve an arch next to it as you did before which will also be smack dab above the part of the next set below. Eventually, you will have something that looks like this:

That is sort of how I started and how I got the courage to wear my twists in public. You can see that the parts in the pic below aren't perfectbut because there's a kind "uniformity" in the shape of parts so that they are all looking kinda the same, then the spaces in between are not really that glaring. Also the overlap of the spaces with each subsequent row helps in creating the illusion of fullness:

AirdryingTwists-vi.jpg

While your hair is still at that length, you can also "set the style". After you do the clamshell parting I just tried to describe, you can tie a sheer scarf (satin for example) and then feel through and kinda rearrange the twists to lie parallel and in a way where each twists is over a space in the row below. If you then pull on make the scarf firm so that it presses those twists that way (even Saran wrap will work nicely), in the morning, you will have what looks like very neatly organized flat twists going all over your head. In other words, the twists will be lying against your scalp but it will be in a way that leave no spaces and looks very work-place tidy. I'm thinking of a look like this:

If it's any consolation, scalp showing isn't such a horrible thing as we fine-haired girls make it out to be. Here are Google images that show more scalp than I see in your pic Pooka!

When I do twists they are so spacey! It looks like I have alot of hair when it's in it's fro state. But when I do twists they are anorexic and spaced out. I would have loved to have this as a protective style, but it just does not look right. What styles do you ladies do? I'm so tired of puffs, I guess I'm just gonna have to go back to my wigs. My hair is too short to go in a bun. I'm neck length.
exactly the same :
but I don't want to put some effort anymore lol. I wear a halfwig now as a protective style. I would like to give a try to strengthening hair and make it more fuller like Henna does.

Nonie My sis was like they look fine! It did look better when I wet it though. But I didn't keep them in long enough to do a cowash or anything. I should have done that. I just got impatient. But Next week I will be doing the parting that you suggested. Thanks! And after I did the twists I put on my scarf and in the morning it looked JUST like the pic you posted from that blog. My sis said it was cute, but I'm kinda new to wearing my hair this short. I was natural years ago and had no shame on wearing my hair out like that, now I'm acting weird this time around. I WILL be rocking my next set. Now that I know what to do. I'm gonna twist them and do a couple cowashes throughout. And I'll post pics again! Thanks again!

I just wrote a whole load and when i pressed Reply it all got deleted.

Anyway long and short of it was i styled my thin twists with a side swoop bang/fringe and also put rollers on the ends to give it some body. I would do them on blowdried hair and use my fingers to do horseshoe shape small parts. If i used a comb the parts looked too obvious.

Here is a pic

Here's an example of the difference in my hair. The first two are when I had my hair twisted at a braiding salon. She used big parts and twisted it tight. The last one is a month before when I did it myself twisting loosely on dry hair. This is several co-washes later.

Oh my Jenn your hair looks waaayyy better when you do it. You do a much better job than the shop. Your twist are beautiful, actually my dream twists. Did you air dry or did you blow dry? Im lazy so I typically twist on wet hair and they look like coils.

I blow dried both times. When I twist on wet hair, the twists start to unravel right away so I always twist on dry hair. I've twisted once on air dried hair (dried in 6 braids) once and my hair was too tangled because it coiled around itself, it took more time to finish, but the results were the same.

Wow! What a difference from the salon's to yours! I'm really gonna do this next week. So I should twist them loosely and not tight? I was twisting them really tight last time.

Nonie I did the twists really small on dry hair, and I parted with my fingers. This is how it came out. I was afraid to wet them because I didn't want them to shrink. :ohwell: I tried doing the hump parts but :look: Didn't work out.

My siggy is a twistout from those twists.

pookaloo83, I like!!! :yep: They don't look scalpy at all, especially if that is before wetting! LOVE the twist-out!!! How long did you wear them before the twist-out? And did you wet to set the twists for the twist-out? Coz if you did, you're wrong for not showing that pic. :bat:

 Nonie No I didn't wet the twists AT ALL. I wore those twists for about 6 days. :yep:

Not making neat square parts, just grab and go has helped my twists not look so spacey. They still look spacey but not as much. I would start from the front side and work my way toward the back. Here's a few pictures:
