WOW! Those are some thick curls! Now, I hate it when people touch my hair, but if I was standing behind you in a line, I would have to reach out and touch that hair of yours!

prettyblac, I use a mild Revlon Realistic lye relaxer to texturize.

Tee, people have just walked up to me and grabbed a handful of hair and scrunched it. lol One was a co-worker, who I barely knew. That surprised me. The others were friends or relatives.

Have u always done your own texturizer. I want to do my own because I don't want to be a slave to the salon...but texturizing is so tricky....one wrong application and bye bye perfect curls.....how have u kept your curls so perfect?
Sorry for all the questions but your hair is absolutely beautiful...u are definitely my hair inspiration...I'm currently transitioning from a relaxer to a texturizer.

Thanks!!! I've been getting some PM's asking for my regimen. So, here it is as of today. It changes slightly from time to time, but basically remains the same. I have the products that work for me and do not see myself purchasing anything else new.

My Regimen - I think this is everything. If not, this is the gist of it.:

WASHING:
Since October 2002, I've been on a modified "Curly Girl" routine (from Lorraine Massey's book of the same name), so I do condition washes 2-3 times per week using White Rain or VO5.

I shampoo with Elucence Moisture Benefits shampoo once per month, or as needed. When this is gone, I'll probably follow the Curly Girl routine (no shampooing at all).

PROTEIN or MOISTURIZING CONDITIONERS:
- Apply Hennalucent (neutral) every 2-3 months. I consider this my mild protein treatment. It can be purchased at Sally's Beauty Supply Store.

- Deep condition once per month with Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner mixed with shea oil or Optimum Conditioner with Vitaplex - dry hair formula.

CLARIFYING:
Clarify with ACV a couple of times per month, or as needed.

DAILY MAINTENANCE:
I either spritz with water/conditioner/glycerin or just plain tap water, then air dry.

HOT OIL TREATMENTS:
I do hot oil treatments with essential oils approx. every other month. I usually use virgin coconut oil, but sometimes add jojoba, castor, or olive oil to it. Essential oils: Lavendar, rosemary, geranium, and cedarwood.

GEL:
I use gel from time to time, but not very often. I use either L'Oreal Studio Anti-Frizz gel (medium hold) or Aura Cacia Curl Enhancing gel. Neither has a lot of hold, but that's fine with me. The L'Oreal can be purchased at the drug store or a grocery store. The Aura Cacia is a natural gel and is more difficult to find. I get mine from an organic grocery store. They sell it at Whole Foods too.]

RELAXING/TEXTURIZING:
Texturize with Revlon Realistic (Mild - lye) approx. every 3 months. I previously used Regular to further stretch my curls and show more length, but have now switched to mild.

ALL PRODUCTS:
1. Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner and Moisture Benefits Shampoo
2. White Rain Cond. (Passion Flower), VO5 Conditioners (Tangerine, Pina Colada, Peach, Strawberries and Cream).
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
4. Vegetable Glycerin
5. Essential oils:Lavendar, rosemary, geranium, and cedarwood.
6. Revlon Realistic lye relaxer (mild).
7. L'Oreal Studio Anti-Frizz gel (medium hold) or Aura Cacia Curl Enhancing gel
8. Optimum Conditioner with Vitaplex - dry hair formula.
9. Shea Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil, Olive Oil.

Note: Once the jojoba and castor oils are gone, I won't be using them. The same applies to the Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo.

I have timeframes listed, but I do what I feel my hair needs. The times below are not written in stone.

DAILY:
1. Spritz with plain water or water/glycerin/conditioner

WEEKLY:
1. Deep condition with Elucence Moisture Balancing + shea oil

2-3 TIMES PER WEEK:
1. Wash with conditioner (VO5 or White Rain)

EVERY OTHER WEEK:
1. ACV clarifying

MONTHLY
1. SHAMPOO with Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo
2. Condition with Optimum

EVERY OTHER MONTH:
1. Hot Oil Treatment
2. Hennalucent

kandyland, yes I have always done my own texturizer. I was natural for several months 3 1/2 years ago, and tried the naturalaxer and bodiphier. Didn't like either. I started using a lye relaxer to texturize since that is what I used when I relaxed it straighter (not bone straight). I agree, texturizing is trickier than relaxing straighter..IMO. It helps me to do strand tests. That's the only way that I will have a fairly good idea of what will happen. Timing and correct relaxer strength are everything. The first one or two times I texturized, I did it in sections to make sure that I had enough time. Making sure that you have enough new growth to retouch is very important. This is not too difficult to accomplish because it's easier for some people to go longer without retouching because the new growth will blend with the texturized hair more easily. I may not be able to tell by looking at my hair that I haven't had a relaxer in a couple of months, but if I "felt" the new growth and compared it to the texturized hair, I would be able to tell.

Condition, condition, condition, is my motto and I think it helps my hair to withstand a lot more. Plus, I do not use a lot of heat very often. I air dry most of the time. I do, however, sometimes use a hand-held dryer with a diffuser attachment to remove some of the moisture when my hair is too wet to leave the house. The good thing about my texturizer is, I can just spritz lightly to rejuvinate my curls in the morning. This can't be done for several mornings in a row because it will eventually result in tangles, but I can comb it out at night if I want...then spritz again in the morning. I can also wet it at night and put it in big, loose plaits. I take the plaits down in the morning and finger comb with or without a sprizing.
