Exercise and Relaxer

If you are an avid exerciser like me and it’s the week of your relaxer. How many days before the relaxer do you stop your exercise routine? I don’t want my pores to be open and cause any unnecessary pre-mature burning.

I’m due to relax on Saturday and was thinking about not exercising Thursday and Friday. What do you think?

I went for a long hard run a couple of hours before I got my touch up in March last year and I suffered no burns, I based my edges as always but nothing else. I just made sure my scalp dried before the relaxer application.

I didn't even think about my pores opening, I guess I was lucky I had no burning.

I'd say it's okay to exercise on Thursday...

I personally workout the nite before. However, I don't workout the day of the relaxer. I did it one day and my hair dried and all(Worked out at 6 a.m. and Relaxed at 4:00 p.m.), but I burned like hell. Lessons learned.

Just base your scalp the night before and day of.

I just ran the morning of my relaxer...NEVER.AGAIN. Burned like crazy. :burning::burning: I'd wait at least a couple days. I never knew this, but I sure learned the hard way.

I stay off the entire week.....:look:, not just because of my pores but to minimized any extra itching from all that sweat :nono:.

I don't exercise the day before or the day of.

Ditto. One time I did exercise the day before my relaxer and my stylist had to take it off almost as soon as she got it on. My head was on FIRE:burning:, it was so . I would recommend at least 2 days prior should be your last day of exercise before a relaxer. Don't take the risk and cut it too close honey. Not good:nono:

I was just thinking this yesterday. I'm due to relax in August, and I exercise religiously 5 days a week. I was planning on taking the entire week before my relaxer off from exercise, but now I'm thinking I'll just take 3 days off. Either way, I'll never exercise the day of and the day before a relaxer again. My hair was underprocessed and I got relaxer burns on my scalp :nono:. Sweat is slightly acidic and I think the acidity of it affects the the relaxing process.

I've worked out the morning of plenty of times and had no adverse effects. I never burn though so perhaps my scalp just isn't that sensitive.

I've never even thought about that. And my scalp is sensitive and i will generally have worked out the day before and i dont think it makes a difference. I don't really understand how it would make a difference as long as you wait for the scalp and hair to dry completely before applying, and you haven't washed your hair in the last 4 days.
