Excessive Moisture = More Newgrowth. Why?

Before LHCF I use to oil/moisturize my hair everyday without washing/co-washing until I'll get my next relaxer which will be every 4-6 weeks. My hairstyles were simple: ponytail or wearing it down. My edges would be very hard to lay down at 5 weeks post. I had some shedding, but not severe. I was at APL+ until I started using heat daily & dyeing my hair w/o the proper care [or probably the wrong dye]. At first I was at SL+, now I'm about 1-2 in back to APL. Now, that I'm washing, conditioning, proteining, and all that good stuff, I'm not seeing as much new growth as I was before. Why is that? :perplexed

Is it that you're not growing it or that it's less detectable because it is in better condition and more manageable?

The latter would make more sense to me.

It could be that your newgrowth is softer now. I know before LHCF I used to think that my hair was "reverting" after week three of my relaxer. Now in week 5, I'm desperately searching for new growth and don't really see anything until week 6 and IMO my hair is growing.

I mean I KNOW my hair was growing before b/c it was always breaking but still getting longer - if that makes sense. But now I have to wait longer to feel that same kinda kink and I have to wait until I relax to see the real length.

But back to your question. Too much moisture/protein, anything can hinder your progress. One of the members here - Sisterslick I think has a tutorial on how to tell just what your hair needs moisture, protein, etc.

Thanks a lot! I am taking MSM, can that be the reason y I'm not seeing the thickness no more? I mean, my edges are slightly wavy, but I can easily slick my edges back to where they're straight, which I could never do in a 4 weeks post before LCHF.

The msm can help soften hair texture which maybe what you are seeing.

As far as the detectable issue, what I think she was talking about is that when your hair is in better condition, it is more managable. Maybe what you thought was growth was really poorly conditioned hair. (correct me if I am wrong Miss Esq)

Oh yes. MSM will definitely make your new growth finer and less likely to feel by touch. I know personally and Sareca said something about MSM changing her texture also.:yep:

Great! So my MSM is working! My edges are like a 3c now, very easy to slick w/o thick waxes :drunk:
