wanna dye my hair all over a really light brown color and then add bright blonde streaks in it. I just bought a black rinse yesterday to cover my streaks, and I currently wear my hair dark now (with a brown rinse) and I think sometimes it looks cute. BUT, everytime I see them, I just think to myself "If only I can get my hair to look like their's."

Right now, my goal is not to dye my hair until I reach my goal of waist length by 2005. My goal is not to dye my hair PERIOD until I reach my goal. My wedding (ceremony, I'm already married) is next year, and I still promised myself that I would hold off on the dye until 2005.

My question is, do any of you get side tracked or lose motivation if you see someone beautiful on TV or around town? I love the way dark hair looks on me, but I just know that the blonde is better. I wonder if I'm being insecure when I look at these other women??

It's not being insecure. I think it's normal to see something that you like and want to try it on yourself. You even say that you know that blonde is better, but you choose to hold out on dyeing your hair. You have a lot of will-power.

Thanks, but seriously, sometimes I just think that I don't look as good unless I get my hair to be a lighter color. I know that's a bad thought to have...

No it's not. My mother tells me that the color I currently sport (orangey brown) fits my complexion and that God gave me that color hair for a reason. I then had to remind her that my natural hair color is dark brown, and she said to herself, "I wonder what God was thinking?"

I couldn't believe it. I laughed for about an hour. I know I've been sporting this color a few years now, but still! It's just that certain hair colors tend to bring us out more. I saw this girl on the train who looked so good in this blonde hair color she had, although I knew it wasn't natural. I doubt I would think she looked that good in jet black. To each her own.

I've always loved lighter brown hair and love when mine goes lighter during hot summer days. I even sit outside purposely with my back to the sun to lighten it

. Bad I know but I like the look as I think it suits me better.

I recently added a pic to my profile of Micheal Michelle sporting the exact hair colour that I'd LOVE to have. Of course I'm not going to succumb to dying my hair. Its just too much work for me to look after so I'll stick with the sun instead and deep conditioning after.

I was watching a recorded episode of Extreme Makeovers the other day and they showed a woman (white) who went from dark brown to a warm honey colour all over. OMG she looked 10 years younger (with new hair cut/style too) and the lighter colour really enhanced her face.

I feel the same way Cami. I use to wear a lighter color but then I started dying my hair black. With my complexion I think lighter hair would look alot better.

I love the color Beyonce and Tyra has. I've wishing my hair was that light brown with a few blonde streaks. Its really cute.

i understand cami. i love to change my hair, but when it comes to color i'm scared because my dark skinned, and i don'want to look like a hoodrat with all these diffrent shades in my hair.

I know whatchu mean.......I miss my highlighted hair. Right now I'm not concentrating on growing my hair, if it grows longer fine, if not fine, but I've thought about highlighting again if it grows another 5 inches. But I'm kind of saving that as a treat to myself when I move to Texas-I wouldn't want highlighted hair in dreary MI. It would be covered up most of the time going out.

Hi Cami... I used to go through the exact same thing and ended up frying my hair. Whenever I feel like bleaching my hair I look at pictures of Kristen Kruek (Lana Lang from Smallville) because she is the only one I've seen with my exact same hair color (dark reddish brown) that also has long hair. Looking at her pics keeps me focused on my goal... length! and keeps me away from the dye. Try finding beautiful long haired women with your same hair color... it should help a lot. -Ashley

I know what you mean Cami... I would love to try some kind of streaks or highlighting while waiting for my hair to grow out. It is growing but I am somewhat impatient and I know that it's not gonna happen overnight. .

Any temporary, safe, paint-on, way to try this (streaks)? I've never colored my hair... Thanks.

Hey, you are absolutely right! I need to find more women with dark hair that I admire a lot. I guess it's just that right now, Beyonce and JLO are "IT" right now and everyone praises how beautiful they are. You never hear anyone going goo goo ga ga over Amerie or Ashanti. I know that everyone thinks they're attractive, but they're not nearly talked about as Beyonce and JLO. I don't know what it is about them???

HEY CAMI,

I UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM, BUT YOU SHOULDN'T GET SIDE TRACKED BY THESE LADIES.

JLO's HAIR DOES LOOK NICE. LIGHT-BROWN AND BLONDE SHADES DO FLATTER HER APPERANCE. HER HAIR IS ON POINT COLOR-WISE AND LENGTH-WISE BECAUSE SHE PAYS PROFESSIONALS TOP-DOLLAR FOR THE RESULTS WE SEE.

BEYONCE'S LIGHT-BROWN AND BLONDE WEAVES, LOOKS GOOD ALSO.
I READ ARTICLES ABOUT HER HAIRREGIMEN, AND SHE AND HER MOM HAVE SAID, SHE USES THESE LIGHTER SHADE WEAVES BECAUSE SHE HAS EXPERIENCED HAIR DAMAGE FROM DYEING/BLEACHING HER RELAXED HAIR. SHE USES THE WEAVES TO ALLOW HER HAIR TO HAVE A BREAK FROM DAILY MAINTENANCE, PERFORMANCES, ETC... I WILL ADMIT, THE COLORFUL WEAVES DO ENHANCE HER APPEARANCE AND COMPLIMENT HER COMPLEXION.
(HER MOTHER IS ALSO HER HAIR STYLIST)

ONCE YOU REACH YOUR HAIR GOAL (WAIST-LENGTH) YOU SHOULD REALLY WEIGH YOU OPTIONS. THE HEALTH OF YOUR HAIR IS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAINTAIN THE LENGTH OF YOUR HAIR. DO YOU WANT TO RISK HAIR BREAKAGE, SPLIT ENDS, AND DRYNESS/BRITTLE HAIR? I ALREADY KNOW YOU DON'T WANT ANY OF THIS TO HAPPEN.
THIS IS WHY I THINK YOU SHOULD THINK THIS OVER!
THE OVERALL MAINTENANCE OF YOUR HAIR IS SO IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS RELAXED & COLOR-TREATED. YOUR HAIR CARE REGIMEN WILL INCLUDE ALOT OF DEEP-CONDITIONING AND COLOR-UP KEEP! ARE YOU UP FOR THIS? ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY A PROFESSIONAL EVERY TIME YOU GET NEW-GROWTH TO COLOR YOUR ROOTS?
IT ALL ADDS UP $$$ IN TIME! YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY THE PRICE WITH YOUR HAIR!

FOCUS ON YOUR HAIR GOAL FOR NOW AND EVALUATE THE EXTRAS THAT COME WITH MAKING A HAIR-COLOR COMMITMENT! REMEMBER, YOU'RE GOING TO BE COLORING YOUR HAIR, NOT ADDING A BLONDE WEAVE TO YOUR HEAD!
SEE THE DIFFERENCE!

*IF YOU'RE GOING TO SWITCH-UP YOUR HAIR COLOR, MAKE A GRADUAL TRANSITION. TRY A SEMI-PERMANENT*

GOOD LUCK

Hey Amberskye! Thanks for the advice, you are right. I need to remember that they wear weaves which protects they're hair. But, for those of us who don't wear weaves, should we just stick to our natural color?

Is there anyone that's experiencing severe breakage from having relaxed/colortreated hair??

J Lo wears weaves/pieces as well .... I have 4a/4b hair and have permantly colored my hair 2x and didn't get any breakage from it. The first time I had been getting regular/super no lye relaxers and when I put the second color in I had switched to mild lye relaxers. Color is dangerous though, but I doubled up on my protein and moisturizing. And kept my hair covered when I was at home 100% of the time.I defenitely wouldn't get any blow outs with color and relaxers.

I get tempted to color my hair but instead when I get my hair braided I will get highlights in that. You could probably added a few tracks to your real hair for color. But make sure it's the right textured hair or it will be obvious that it is a track.

CAMI,

MY HAIR IS RELAXED & COLOR-TREATED (LIGHT-BROWN & BLONDE TONE HIGHLIGHTS)

MY HAIR IS NOT DAMAGED AND IT'S IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. MY HAIR REGIMEN CONSISTS OF WEEKLY WASH & SETS, ALONG WITH DEEP-CONDITIONING TREATMENTS. I ALSO GET A HOT-OIL TREATMENT ONCE A MONTH. I AM QUITE DILIGENT WHEN IT COMES TO THE HEALTH AND APPEARANCE OF MY HAIR.

think.gif
MY STYLIST TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BE ON-TOP OF MY GAME IF I DECIDED TO GET HIGHLIGHTS.
SINCE I DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND GET THE HIGHLIGHTS, I HAVE BEEN AS DILIGENT AS I'M SUPPOSED TO BE, POSSIBLY MORE THAN I SHOULD BE.

YOU REALLY NEED TO GIVE IT ALOT OF THOUGHT AND IF YOU DECIDE TO GET YOUR HAIR COLOR-TREATED, YOU MUST BE DILIGENT! EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING NOW, PLUS MORE WILL BE RQUIRED. THESE ARE THE WORDS MY STYLIST TOLD ME!

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO!

Hi Cami... thats funny because I love both Ashanti and Amerie's dark hair. I used to dye my hair black, but then everyone kept asking me if I was sick.
shocked.gif
It really doesn't go with my complexion... Anyways the reason I don't color my hair anymore is because I'm afraid once I start I won't be able to stop BUT I think it is more than possible to color relaxed hair safely... just look at Tracy! Perhaps you should investigate in a color gloss to start? If you're really want the hilights redken is supposed to make a gentle product called 5/15 (or something like that) that is supposedly able to lift your hair 5 levels without ammonia... Ashley
antlers.gif

*Edited to change bleach to ammonia*

OOPS! I think I may have spoken too soon. I found this information on Redken's professional site...

"Lift 5/15 is the alternative creme highlighting system combining healthy, conditioned natural looking results of a high lift color with the fast, maximum lightening action of a bleach. It is a gentle, state-of-the-art, non-ammonia formula that lightens up to 5 levels in 15 minutes as it conditions hair with natural oat proteins. This highlighting system can be used for all off-scalp applications, including highlighting."

I can't really tell what it is... The no ammonia threw me off... I know it is highly recommended for people with TR... I don't know about relaxers though... Ashley
