Ever Been Told Your Hair's Too Long or Too Short?

People always used to tell me my hair was too short to do a lot of stuff. I usually wouldn't say anything, get a weave and then people would shut up.

In school one time a kid told me I was,"so baldheaded that I could roll my hair on rice."

What did I do? I went and hid and cried. He said it in front of everyone!

my aunt and other people always said I have enuff hair on my head for 2 or 3 people. (super thick hair) This is one of the many reasons I didnt let my aunt do my hair after a while. She use to cut my hair and all this crap saying, "You wont miss. You have enuff for a few more people still." WTH???

i always hear the your hair's so thick comment (relaxed and when i was young and natural).

about 15 years ago my hair got soooo dry and crazy looking. i thought it was a good idea to go to a salon and have them "do something with it". i was frustrated, tired of combing and curling and felt i had no way to get hair relief. my mind thought a trim and set would be a treat and a relief.

after taking out the braids the first comment was "your hair's soooo thick".

went in the salon with below brastrap hair and left the salon with hair just touching my shoulders

when i hear someone say that my "hair's sooo thick" it gives me ebbie-jebbie type flashbacks....

sidenote: haven't been to a salon in 15 years.

hearing that comment is fine, just as long as it isn't coming from someone who's gonna be doing your hair :perplexed - but that's just me hehehe.

HaHa everytime a stylist said that to me, my hair ended up a disaster. So yes i def beware if 1st words out of mouth is your hair is soo thick

My husband used to say my hair was too much at brastrap because I was in the salon and spending too much money on haircare, it used to be all in his face so I cut it NOW I REGRET IT and he does too, he now wants my long hair back.

Just this morning, my youngest brother called to see if I wanted to go to IHOP with him and the children. I told him no because I was busy flat ironing my hair. He said as much as you get paid, you ought to pay someone to do your hair. Then he said what about L (his wife that's a cosmetologist). I had to remind him about the last time I went to her (wrote that thread about it here), and reminded him again that I was never going back to her. Then he said I should just get my hair cut to my shoulders. I told him I didn't have to get my hair cut to my shoulders to handle it. I told him that I didn't mind flat ironing my own hair because I know how to treat my hair better than anyone else. Anyways, he got the point.

Right now, I'm telling myself my hair is too short.

I had to get a cut after an atrocious relaxer and it doesn't even touch my shoulders yet. I had a wonderful stylist though, who had recently worked with hair prosthetics for ill/balding people, so she was extremely sensitive about cutting and explained what the style was going to look like before she even took the scissors out.

I've heard the "your hair is too long" line countless times. Most times I'll just ignore the comment but sometimes I ask why and I can never get a proper answer. People just say "cause." I'm like whatever.

I've never gotten the your hair is too short or too long comment. I have gotten the.."why do you keep cutting your hair" question A LOT!!! Because I was ALWAYS cutting my hair.

I also got the "your hair is so thick" comment from a stylist and I said "Thank You!!!". She didn't jack me up, but was relieved when I told her I wanted a blow out, instead of a rollerset...I woulda been in that shop under the dryer for a while...I HATE THE DRYER!!!

When I had long hair i never had negative comments.
When I BCed EVERYONE had something to say about the length.
Now, it's still short for me but people have comments like 'thank god you're letting it grow again' etc. Whatev. I dont say anything really. Usually just thanks for your input.

Yeah!!! My stylist out of all people asked me on Friday..."have you ever thought about cutting your hair"? That kind of scared me because I am on the verge of firing her anyway. BTW...my hair is between shoulder length and APL

This crazy stylist that did my tree braids last year:mad: . One of the worst experiences I ever had. She lives 1hr 30mins away and scheduled me for Sunday at 6am. I should have known better. I went the day before to meet her and make sure I know exactly where she lived. She made me wash and blow dry my hair because the only she does are your braids. I am brastrap and I told her when I initially called how long my hair was and she told me that is fine and she won't charge me extra since I have to drive so far. I get there and she just stands at the door looking at me. She then stated I did not know your hair was so long and why do you wear your hair that long? I stated I told you on the phone my hair was midback and then she said she thought it would be shoulder lenght. I did not have enough hair and she ended up adding a color I did not like. She still charged me extra. I ended up paying $285. It lasted about 6 weeks. Never again.

a while ago when I was getting my hair braided to african ladies they use to say each and every time :"ohh. your hair is long" on a complaining tone. past the ear lobe is long for them.
I usually wear my extensions half braided (braided until the end of my hair) I was actually afraid when they told me that and reminded then to braid until the end of my hair and then tie a knot. I Know for a fact that they were tempted to do a screwed up job and tiying a knot at the middle of my hair which would cause automatic breakage.
"the hair style will not be nice" they use to say.
" I don't care. I still want it that way" i used to answer.

I got so paranoied that each and everytime they would finish a braid i'd look at it in the mirror and touch it to be sure my hair was covered....:ohwell:

I have heard "your hair is so thick" comment a lot. But an assistant at a salon was combing me out for the stylist. She was being very heavy handed and I let her know with exaggerated flinching. She said "you shouldn't have all of this hair if you don't like it combed!"
Nevertheless, she never touched my hair again, not even to prep for the stylist

When I started growing out my hair, my SO liked it better super short. His quote during the grow out "all that hair for no reason". I think he was frustrated because it got in his way more.

You ladies have me laughing in here.
Brick....I am sorry she messed you up. Esp after that long drive to go get your hair done.

I went to a hair dresser and she told me that my length was boring and I needed layers. I want my hair to grow to see how long it can get. I do get the "you have too much hair to do anything with", but oh well. I really don't care. I tell people that I want my hair to my tailbone and they ask why. I just tell them because I want to. I think most people think I can't do it, but it is my goal.

Hair stylists tell me my hairs too short to do stuff pretty much all the time the worse incident I can remember is a time I went to get a wash a set and brought my own large purple magnetic rollers with me (which I use at home). I prefer them cos they get my hair nice and smooth. This is partly my own fault but I went to the nearest salon to me which was also pretty cheap cos I needed my hair done for an interview the next day and didn't have time to shop around or make an appointment. When I showed the stylist my rollers she said they were too large and my hair was too short and would just slide out of them, I explained to her that I use these rollers myself all the time but she refused to use them so I eventually gave it and let her use her own ones which were smaller and had those spikes on them (BIG MISTAKE). My hair came out extra big and frizzy and no amount of wrapping could tame it, I ended up going home and washing it and putting my own curlers in.

When I was younger, I always got that my hair was so thick and nappy and now thick and nappy is a compliment to me. The so called negative comments always came from folks who didn't have that type of hair. Now I am proud to be thick and nappy.
