How many have done this consistently this year.
Is it worth adding to one's regualr routine???

Thanks

I keep hearing about sealing in moisture, but I don't know what that is or how to do it. Could you give a brief description? I'm really interested.

I think it helps to put a little silkenseal or other serum on the ends of your hair after your final rinse as a leave-in because it may help those who aren't accustomed to roller-setting to get smother ends, but it also smooths the cuticles along the shaft of the hair.

Do you mean when you use some type of oil and then put foil on the ends of your hair and go over it with a flat iron? Never tried it, but if anybody has, holla

Mindymouse - If you are talking about sealing in the moisture on the hair ends by just applying oil, I have done this daily, at least twice each day consistently for the last 5 years and it really works to keep the ends moisturized and protected.

If I only knew then what I know now about haircare from this board, my hair would be approaching waist length by now, using this in my routine.

I wouldnt call this consistantly but I did it for a week and it jacked up me ends really bad! Maybe I didnt do it right, who knows.

YES its worth it!!! I started moisturizing my ends and sealing w/oil when I joined this board in May. Ive retained about three inches of hair (probably more because Im due fo a touchup. Before joining, My hair hovered at the same length for years and kept breaking off especially in the nape area. Now my nape area is long enough to put a roller in!

If Mindymouse means the way Soulchild described, I don't think I will be doing that. I know Robin Woods suggests this method and I highly respect her, but for me personnally, my ends would fall right off. Concentrated heat and moisture retention just don't seem like the right combination. . . But let me know what your experiences have been with this method . . .

If Mindymouse means Isis' method, I've been doing that for about 6 months now and notice that I am retaining length in the problem areas (nape of neck, hairline). I use a little Scurl (or Dew or Elucence) on the last two inches of my hair, then cover it with jojoba oil. Or just use oil, without the moisture. It's working out great.

Thank you, perfectpeace, for the explanations.

I moisturize my ends every other night with Hairobics Hair Oil.

As the weather gets colder, I will probably step up the process to every night.

I usually moisturize my ends twice a day without heat , this seems to have helped me to retain more length.I would not try to use the method that involves heat, that would be too much for my ends.

I tried crown and glory end sealing technique for about about a month. I then braided my hair, kept it moisturised for six weeks. When I took out the braids, my hair ends were hard, dry, and tangly(never experiencd that before with braids). I ended up cutting an inch of hair.
Never again will i use that method!

No, like soul child said, putting foil in the ends and using a flat iron to seal.

I tried the end sealing method. I think it left my ends too greasy! I get good results when I just apply a little WGO to wet ends.

I like the foil method. I apply olive or coconut oil, wrap a good ending portion of the hair in the foil and apply heat, making sure that the iron covers the foil and not your hair. You see differences immediately, I had good results and I think Carmela did too. Im pretty sure thats who put me on.

with the foil method is your hair soaking wet ? or can u spritz the ends with water ?

The thing is you are only supposed to use a non-electric marcel iron to do it. I'm guessing so you won't get electricuted. But who has one of those or would be willing to buy on e just to seal ends? According to those like Cathy Howse, those irons are not good for the hair.
