About a month ago, I was in desperate need of an intervention. Long story short, my hair broke/fell out a LOT. I have hair in the middle of my head that is just now reaching 2 inches. This summer it was less than that or non existent.

I was doing some damaging things to my hair with out even realizing what I was doing until it was too late. I lost almost half of my hair volume before I realized that I was using too much protein and not enough moisture. It was a sad moment for me especially since I had actually reached a milestone in March.

So this September, I took about 10 steps backwards

For anyone who is in the middle of such an event take heart

Because I just took about 5 steps forward:)

First the bad news.
I have had to accept the fact that it will probably be a year before the shorter hair will grow back to my March 07 goal of shoulder length.

I also have to continuously cover, camoflouge (sp?) the thinner, see through parts of my hair. This is hard because I have never had see through hair.

Now the good news:

I have reversed the breakage, thanks to the advice of my LHCF sistas. I actually have less breakage now than I did before all my hair broke off. I finally found the perfect balance between protein and moisture.

The hair that I do have on my head looks really really good! I still get compliments. It moves, shakes, has shine and looks healthy.

I can say that I have the heat thing conquered which will help me fully recover my loss. I blow dry my hair on the lowest setting (and it gets dry!) and flat iron on low heat and my hair comes out looking beautiful!!

In retro spect, even though I had reached my goal in March, I still had some things to learn and some bad habits to break. Hopefully I can truly move forward to my goals without more painful lessons to learn..

Thanks for listening and be encouraged

I'm really sorry to hear that you had to face such a setback... it's something we all fear. It's nice to see that you are looking at the positive aspects of the situation, though, and that you sound ready to move forward. With an attitude like that, I know you'll have no problems reaching your goals. You've lived, and learned and now you know what you need to do to get to the finish line! Thanks for sharing your story to encourage others; and I hope you stay encouraged yourself :yep:. *Smile*

:yep: Good for you. Your positive attitude toward the whole situation is great. I like that. Keep up all that good work

:flowers:

I'm glad you hung in there and now on the right track. Very inspirating. **STEP AWAY FROM THE BLOWDRYER AND FLATIRON j/k LOL!!!**:lachen:

You know this is a pretty cool post.

I'm sorry you had such a set back and I can totally relate. I have a patch of hair in the middle of my arm pit length hair (mind you) that's ummmm, about 1.5 inches. Plus my hair has thinned out a lot as well.

It was really encourging to hear you admit that you probably won't have shoulder length hair (in that area) for another year. I need to fuss up and tell myself that instead of being so pissed due to this set back. Give it a year is what I will start telling myself. I too have to camoflouge a lot.

Thanks for your post.

First of all let me say I am so happy that you have figured things out or your hair's benefit and having such a good attitude about your setback, trust, you are not alone, it happens to many. Can you please elaborate on finding that perfect balance between moisture and protein. This is something I struggle with, and I realize if you don't figure it out, it will lead to setbacks. I'm not sure what your hairtype is, but I think it would be useful info.
