So today, I'm rocking my fabulous rollerset :D
I'm feeling sexy with it, got a few compliments on it, and my guy "friend" stops by to chat with me, looks at my hair and asks: "where are you braids?" I was like "huh?" He was referring to micro braids that I had for about 5 weeks in Nov/Dec. I was like, "I took them out. Why?" He goes, "well I just like long hair."

I'm thinking to myself, I'm trying to grow my hair out and making the best progress that I can. I don't need some man to tell me that he likes long hair. I like long hair, and I like it for myself, not some man! Sheesh!

I was mad at first, then thought, why does he even care?

Girl, don't pay no attention to that inconsiderate dude! That was a RED FLAG! You hear?

I am sure your rollerset is beautiful AND good for your hair at the same time...and when your hair grows down your back and dude is sweating you, just tell him.....

"uh, hi....uh....where's your six pack?" and when he says "why?" Just tell him, "well, I just like strong, manly men":p (and, that statement is interchangeable with 'money', 'straight teeth', 'HEIGHT', or whatever dude doesn't have!)
;)

 Good one...

That was kind of rude...i hate men that put up so many standards on how they want a woman to look but yet they arent up on there looks either you know...i understand everyone has their preferences but sometimes all those preferences cant be met...

Umm!! You have a guy friend like that, too? I thought I was the only one. I almost quit being friends with mine over his criticisms. I mean, WTH... I started jumping through his hoops trying to be what he wanted in hopes that one day...

I was more into him than he was into me. But one day I woke up and said to hell with this. I was going through all kinds of changes to live up to what he wanted in my appearance and at the same time he frequently reminded me that I was not his type.

Never again for "just a friend". Why can't they just accept?! :naughty:

If it is coming from a friend or someone I'm cool with, I like honesty. As long as it is not rude.

Unfortunately alot of men like long hair, as well as there are some that prefer short hair, like my best friends husband he hates when her hair starts to grow out of it's cut. But my hubby on the other hand didn't care how long or short my hair was. When we first got married 5yrs ago he was amazed at the versatility my just about APL length hair was, he never saw so many stlyles b4 on one head, lol, (that when I was a hair/beauty fanatic b4 the 2 extra kids, :lachen: ) but anyway I've been dying and cutting since after my fitst son, and just started growwing it back long about spring of 05 which he knows and he says to me yesterday that he wants my hair down to my butt, , and please don't cut it no more. I was like I've been growwing my hair back for months now, and I want my hair to be long and not to my butt, sometimes I think men forget what we tell them or they see us doing and try to act like we're doing it for them, I think not I'm growwing my hair for me and you can enjoy the benefits.

Yep! I was just thinking about this yesterday. Dudes have these unreasonably high expectations of women, but a lot of them walk around lookin like who done it and what for and pretend that's ok. I say shoot one of those remarks back at him and he'll probably look at you like:confused: but he needs to hear that junk.
He may not have meant any harm by it since many men do prefer long hair, but you do what you do for YOU, not to please other people. ;)

Last time (that was years ago) some dude told me he likes long hair as a means to criticize me for having short hair hair, my answer was, you like long hair? Fine! Grow your own!

LOL,

I agree with the other posters who said that long hair is just a preference of a lot of men...I wouldn't take it to heart, he wasn't putting you down he was just simply stating his preference but i could see how it might make you feel like he was(if you had long hair you would've probably taken it as a compliment...but because you don't you felt like he was taking a jab at you)But then again having long or short hair isn't a negative or positive thing...and him saying he likes longer hair wasn't an insult......

I realized a long time ago that everything about me isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea.... So don't even sweat it chica!!!!

I totally agree! And we can blame all those videos...Just look at how FAT and ***** rappers are allowed to be these days and they are totally surrounded by flawless looking women...

I am totally with you on that. And I get so sick of seeing the same sort of thing in the streets. Those jeans hanging off their butts, crotches down to their knees, drawers and butt cracks showing, nails, teeth, and feet all jacked up!!! Any man who has high expectations out of any woman needs to make sure that he comes correct himself!! We need to start holding them accountable for their appearances as much as they do us.

Don't worry about him at all!! I too have been asked from time to time when I was goign to grow out my short cut. On one hand I do want longer hair as I've never had it before. But on the other hand I do like my hair short as well. With a lot of women sporting longer lengths, I think that having shorter hair makes me stand out. But you are right. You can't please everybody. You are growing your hair out for you!!!

Sorry your friend is an ass or just inconsiderate. My bf is the opposite. He loves short hair (on me) and he wants me to cut my hair. He says my head is too small for the amount of hair that I have now which, btw, is only neck length. I'm like "my head isn't THAT small".

Thanks for the replies  Some of y'all had me rolling!

The thing is, he saw me on Mon, Tues, and Wed without braids. So I was like that was random. Yeah, I know a lot of guys like long hair, but obviously, I don't have it yet, so he didn't have to say that. It was like, well, if you don't have it, keep buying it. SMH.

Yep, I have been saying this for the longest time.

Alot of men love long hair my boyfriend is always asking me to wear my hair down when i was in my braid challenge, they think the only person that looks cute in short hair is halle berry. But I pay them no mind cuz do what u want to do with your hair and whoever complains tell em "well just make sure u dont do it";) :p :D

Shoot, look at Flava Flav!! Women are on his show, ready to degrade themselves to win the affection of that clown.

Since he loves LONG hair, tell him you will buy him a pack of Yaki 18 inches for a belated Christmas gift!

That show is truly pathetic, I want to swear these girls are all actors, but I need to start realizing that some of us have truly lost our dayum minds.
