I did it!!! I finally got a relaxer after the longest 21 weeks of my life . The most wonderful thing about it is that I did it myself :yay:. I just want to thank every single person on this board especially other self-relaxer’s that gave me the confidence that I needed to just dive in full speed ahead and take control of my hair. It was so empowering how I could keep the relaxer in as long as I wanted to, and that I could deep condition and keep the neutralizer in as long as I wanted to. And I didn’t have anyone to thank for the success of it all but MYSELF, and you all of course .

Details of what I did to prepare for the relaxer as well as what I used during and what I will use for my post relaxer wash are in my album in the “Products” folder for anyone who is interested. I had gotten my last relaxer July 30, 2004, but my comparison pic is from August 3. In 5 months I didn’t have as much growth as I would have liked, but there is a difference and now I am all trimmed and ready to start the New Year. My hair is still a bit uneven (because the middle is the shortest part), but I will trim accordingly when the time comes. Although length is still to come, my hair is absolutely the healthiest it has EVER been in my life, this forum was truly a God Send for me and my hair…Okay, I must leave before I get all emotional :cry3:, but I do thank you all for your infinite hair wisdom :D.

Both are from the 2nd day of a roller-wrap...

Thanks every one for all the compliments and kind words. It really warm my heart :).

@WesternEyes: Unfortunately I had to use some Wonder 8 Oil to get it just right ;) lol. But when I start to use Colorshines after my May relaxer I hope the shine is like that ALL the time.

Add another DIYer to the list!
WooHoo!

You got that right!!! A scissor happy, don't give a rats tail about the health of my hair, then have the nerve to say that I don't know what I'm doing with it behind my back type of stylist will never get my hard earned money again...I've had bad experiences :ohwell:.

Your hair came out WONDERFUL!!!! I LOVE the shine!

I am glad you had such an empowering experience with self-relaxing. It DOES feel good.

Congrats girl!!! You can definitely tell the difference of how healthy your hair has become looking @ those pics.

Thanks again for all the compliments...it's encouragement like this that keeps me going, even when it seems like I'm not making any progress :).

@ hottopic
Ohhhhh! Your hair looks so polished and neat. Congrats.

Thanks Sweetie , that is the ultimate compliment (because I'm a neat freak  ). I really didn't do anything special, just a plain old roller wrap...However they do look better the 2nd day .

At first, I thought that was you in your avatar; I never seen your album before I don't think! Anyway, Congrats! Nice progress! Your hair has really grown in that 4 month time period! :)

Thand you soooo much Poo & Sherry!!!

@Allandra

Very, very nice progress. Your hair looks so pretty, and it's so nice and thick.
.

Wow, thanks...I never thought I would ever see the word thick in reference to my hair :dance7:. I owe it all to Aphogee and stretching my relaxers :).

Wow!! How motivating!

Well done, your hair looks great! The length is sure to come now.
