Hi Ladies,

Quick question for the users of this bun. Did you experience or are you experiencing any breakage and/or split ends while wearing this bun?

Bumping for more responses, I'm sure there are some ladies who has used the donut bun as a protective style.

Come on ladies!!!*~*

No damage when I've used it. I covered my foam donut with a silk stocking, and made sure my hair was moisturized and sealed.

I wear a bun but it's a tad different than a donut. It has enough room underneath for my pony to fit comfortably. My hair isn't that long (even if it was it would fit, the bun is completely hollow). I moisturize, seal, and baggy (I wrap my pony in saran wrap). No breakage from it at all.

I have a raggedy black knee high over mine...lol!

No breakage or damage so far... 5 months strong. I only bun wet though after moisturizing and sealing. Got it on today looking like Cecily Tyson :D (my hair appt is tmw)...lol

I didn't know to wrap my bun in silk or weave and it did cause breakage...no matter how much moisturizing and sealing I did. I stopped wearing it for a while and had to do a slight trim as a result. It wasn't very bad, but I understand what you are talking about. Just get something smooth and wrap it around the donut or else your hair will get caught up in it and break off when you are taking it off.

Ladies,

Thanks for the great responses!!! I'm doing my own lil' bun challenge until the spring. I'm hoping to achieve below bra strap and by mid summer mid back.

That's a good idea about covering it with a hair friendly fabric. Hmmmm

So far no breakage, but then again I only use it maybe 2x a month to add variety not so much as a protective style. It looks VERY elegant and I love how easy it is to do.

my hair that is around the bun is fine.

the hair that gets tucked under gets frizzy, even when i moisturise and seal.

This is my concern, the "tucked" hair. Once you wrap the hair around the donut, how do you carefully tuck the excess hair/ends and not get any damage?

Yea I feel I damaged my hair from donut buns. However it was my pre LHCF days. My ends were thin and dry. One time while taking down my bun, my whole ponytail just came out with it. However I wasn't moisturizing my hair, and washing every two weeks, and relaxing bone straight, and in the dessert sun. So I understand why it happen now. I just twist my own hair around itself and cover it when I hair holder. It works for me. I never went back to donut bun. They do look nice though. But im good where im at.
