What can I do to try to make sure that my scalp does not burn when I get my relaxer I saw some where that your scalp may burn because your scalp is dry I don't know how true it is but help ladies I really don't want to look like Freddie Kruger by the scalp:eek:

When I used to relax I greased my scalp with vaseline or some store brand petroleum jelly to prevent relaxer burns. Some self-relaxer kits come with a base cream which is just basically petroleum that you appy to the scalp prior to relaxing. Also make sure not to scratch your scalp for at least a week before you relax! hth

Definitely base your scalp first before you relax your hair.
Avoid brushing, combing, and washing your hair a few days before you relax it.

Good Luck!

My rule is I cant wash for 5 days before a relaxer and I oil my scalp the night before a relaxer. Be careful how you comb your hair.

Co-sign on the vaseline. I used to stay gettin burned and having scabs on my scalp until I started using vaseline.

I'm looking to try Optimum Opti-Calm Pre Relaxer treatment next touch-up. It's probably just glorified vaseline, but I like the applicator tip.

Also, base your scalp the night before and the day of your relaxer.:) A few ladies said this routine caused no burns or irritation. Just like Hway stated.
