What is a "doobie" and the "baggie method"?

Re: Don\'t mean to sound like an idiot, but...

a doobie is when you do a rollerset, take the rollers out, wrap your hair, and then unwrap it.

ive never done the baggie method and i know ladies here do it different ways i think.

Re: Don\'t mean to sound like an idiot, but...

Now when you say rollerset, do you mean rolling the hair on plastic rollers with setting lotion or cream and sitting under a dryer until it's dry? {I know I sound like a dope, but I want to get familiar with all the hair terminology you all use on this board}

You don't have to have a rollerset to do a doobie. It's another word for wrap. You usually part your hair on one side or in the middle and use a comb or brush to wrap your hair around the top of your head. It's usually secured with bobby pins and worn at night with a scarf to keep it in place.

You can also use it as a method of drying wet hair, sans scarf. Wrapping lotion can be used for it.

The baggie method is a means of protective hair styling in which you generally put your hair in a ponytail and moisturize the ends of your hair. Next, you take a baggie (sandwich bag, ziploc bag, saran wrap, etc.) and cover the hair in the ponytail and secure it. This way, your ends aren't exposed to the air and stay moisturized for however long you choose to wear the baggie.

OMG /images/graemlins/ooo.gif So that's what a doobie is! That's what my stylist does after rinsing out the relaxer during a touchup. She spritzes on some lotion, makes a side part and wraps my hair around my head, then wraps some kind of tissue paper around it and secures it with bobby pins. Then I go under the dryer for about half hour.

Regarding the baggie method..Do you actually go OUT with your ponytail in the sandwich bag?? Is your hair wet or dry when you do this? I may have to try this. How often is this done or is it contingent upon your hair texture?

Well...you could...but you'd look kinda (read: extremely) nuts. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Look in my album (in my signature) and go to my protective styles folder to see how I wear it. Personally, I take a small silk scarf and tie it around the baggie to conceal it. Other ladies use phonyponies and phonybuns, etc.

You can do the baggie method on wet or dry hair. It's all up to the individual. I've done it both ways and my hair was fine. Depending on what you use as a moisturizer (oil or creme) it doesn't make much of a difference if they hair in the baggie is wet or dry.

The amount of time you leave the baggie on is completely up to you. You can take your hair out, wash it, and put it back into the baggie that same day or your can wash your hair and change your baggie once a week.
