I was on another hair board and came across this a couple of months ago and was just wondering if anyone else uses this or heard of it. Below)the bolded text) is what was written on the other hair board:

"Ok I was not gonna DARE share this with the board unless I saw some results

and now I am no longer embarrassed to report that yes, I'm in love with some freakin dog shampoo! My vet gave it to me to regrow my Corgi's hot spots where she had lost some hair. It took less than a week for the fur to grow back so of course I was like..hmmmm
smiley38.gif
I've been using it for two weeks and I've seen some growth, repair and thickening of my edges and I be damned if my hair aint soooo soft a is no longer shedding. My hubby even noticed the growth, even though he thinks I am out of my mind. I will be adding this to my hair growth aids. I try to rotate every few months.

Here is the description:
Biovite formula is amazingly high-lathering and fortified with Biotin/Panthenol vitamin and Allantoin. Biovite deep cleanses and conditions both coat and skin and revitalizes damaged hair by stimulating the skin and accelerating the metabolism of inert cells to promote hair growth and retard shedding. All three formulae give the desired texture to the coat immediately and are lasting. You do not have to wait days for the texture to return. Formula 3 is designed to give a thick, full-bodied texture to your dog's coat. If you feel you need extra texture on dog's furnishings, use our Crown Royale Bodifier.

Crown Royale's biotin/panthenol vitamin formula is the best dog shampoo to keep your dog's coat looking beautiful. Crown Royale's dog shampoo revitalizes damaged hair and skin and stimulates hair growth cycle and conditions for a full week. Biovite dog shampoo also helps retard shedding.

Paul Mitchell has his own line of pet grooming products. Shampoos and Conditioners. The packaging is TOO similar to his people product line. I had to do a double take in the store!

I was bout to say ohhh s*** we done struck a nerve ! LOL

Okay, many of those animal hair care products are based off of top level salon products. Take for instance "Cowboy Magic" products, which are designed for both Humans and Horses to use. http://www.cowboymagic.com/

The creator of Cowboy magic took the formulas from premium human hair products to design his product line. I came across Cowboy Magic watching a friend care for her "curly" mane horse. His hair curled so much, he had dreadlocks. Cowboy Magic detangled, I'm goin "hmmmmm"

The Black hair care industry has been for the most part comprised of cheap fillers such as petroleum grease and mineral oil. Caustic chemicals that desolve our hair, but the box didn't come with treatments to replace what the chemicals were removing. Basically, there's just more ways to be creative with the products for OUR hair that have yet to be explored. IMO

Besides the dog and horse industries have money! Them thar folk don't spare a dime when it comes to new ways to take care of their pets.

How does the dog shampoo grow & thicken hair? My dogs hair stay the same length, so how would that work on Humans? I guess the Animals get all the Luxury of hairgrowth.

Dog coats are genetically marked to be a certain length, depending on the breed or mix. Thus a Boxer will never grow a coat like a Golden Retriever no matter how much biotin you give him or how much MTG you heap on him. But if he's got bald spots or a dull coat from, say, illness or a bad diet, MTG would help fill in his coat.

As for the shampoo, hair is basically hair and skin is basically skin. If it works on the dog, it'll prolly work on people too. It's not like the instructions say that humans--the people who will be applying the product, of course--must first cover their hands and faces with protective gear to avoid exposure to these chemicals that are good only on dogs but will burn and blister humans' special, delicate skin... It's just a 'poo. At best the worry might be whether it would be drying on human hair, which it doesn't sound like it is. I'd bet that dish soap is more caustic.

So I can't make my chihuahua shaggy? Nah, I 100% agree with you. What I was having a hard time grasping from the OP is what would be so special in a puppy poo that wouldn't also be in a human one? Like you stated, the hair still maintains growth cycles regardless of species. Using another species products won't change your human hair growth cycles. The shampoos are all pretty much the same, so you obviously won't die, but you might as well just use the human formula. The growth part is obviously untrue, and the thickening part is probably just from the shampoo depositing protein on the cuticle.

I ain't gone lie, I used to wash my ChowChow in Pantene and Herbal Essences. He used to smell good too  I still wouldn't use his stuff on me though. That stuff was like a clarifier to the zillionth power, plus is smelled a lil musky.

Just because it is labeled for dogs, doesn't mean it is bad for humans. Approximately 95% of the medicated shampoos I prescribe for various skin and coat issues in dogs and cats are identical to the human formulas...Just a different label has been put on the bottle. It is not that serious. Dog skin is much thinner than our skin so the cleansing agents tend to be milder than the human versions anyway. I say use it if it works or you. You may want to have it checked by a dermatologist 1st if you are worried about a specific ingredient!

Challenge anyone? :lachen:

WHAT!!...DogMD said it was okay and the ingredients sound harmless-Just switch the label to Pantene or something :look:

At least is not as bad as Monistat but maybe it is:confused: If you become desperate enough you'll try anything.

I wouldn't go so far as to call the women who will try/have tried or are currently using product specifically marketed towards animals desperate. Some people just like to experiment with new things:)
