Sebaceous glands secrete the oily, waxy substance called sebum (Latin, meaning fat or tallow) that is made of fat (lipids), wax, and the debris of dead fat-producing cells.[3] In the glands, sebum is produced within specialized cells and is released as these cells burst; sebaceous glands are thus classified as holocrine glands.
The sebaceous glands are microscopic glands in the skin which secrete an oily/waxy matter, called sebum, to lubricate the skin and hair of animals.[1] In humans, they are found in greatest abundance on the face and scalp, though they are distributed throughout all skin sites except the palms and soles.
I thought all scalps produce their own oils called sebum.

Hmm, I think everyones does. Doesnt it? I know mine does. My brother who has 4a hair also gets a lot of scalp oil so I dont think it matters what texture you are, just wont move down a kinky or curly shaft as well. Mine will become oily within 3 days after washing and be flat out dirty by a week, same with my brother, im 3b, hes 4a. If youre not getting oil on your scalp maybe it has something to do with diet? Or damage to the scalp possibly? I just dont know but Im pretty sure everyone has oil glands that produce sebum on their scalp.
ETA: Those who have little or no oil, have you actually tried rubbing your scalp after several days of not washing lol? Have you actually found that theres no oil at your scalp at all?
Someone pls tell me if there isany other way to check. LOL..well i just did pass my finger on it and there was a shine on my finger tip (NB: i just air dried and there is absolutely nothing in my hair)
Everyone doesn't have "normal" skin.
If I tried going without oil/lotion, not only would my skin get dry, it will break out in bumps and eventually even crack and bleed.
My skin produces virtually no oil. I have never a day in my life found natural oil on my fingers after running my hand over any part of my skin or scalp.
And it's not because of anything I do or don't do. It's how I was made/born
Cutting down on oil may work for some, but if there are any others like me out there... don't do it! lol
My problem is not as bad as yours but do you use a special shampoo?
