Does Protein in your diet contribute to healthy hair?

I ask this question because I am having surgery next month. Back in '99 I had my stomach stapled (Gastric Bypass) and I lost tons of weight but I don't remember if my hair fell out or not. Now I have to undergo the same surgery again next month due to complications. My entire staple line has broke down and I have a hugh hole in my stomach. I have to get it repaired ASAP or I will start to become Septic. My stomach will be restricted to two ounces per meal so I know I won't be able to eat as much protein as I should. I will however have to take a ton of vitamins to suppliment my loss of calciuim and vitamins due to my body won't absorb much of what I am able to eat. I am so scared that my hair will be really thin or even fall out. I also heard your hair call fall out due to the anesthesia (SP). Ok I need some help. Any suggestions ladies ***as I bite my nails, counting down the days to my surgery**

Oh wow! I'm nervous for you! I really hope your surgery goes well.

But to answer your question, I would think that protein does contribute to hair growth/strength, since hair is primarily made up of protein.

Thanks for your concern. I tried to get my medical records from the dr that performed my surgery the first time and I'm told I have to go thru his attorney. Well since I work for a hospital I called the Attorney Generals office and have found out the surgeon has pending malpractice lawsuites against him.....YIKES:eek: . I have been having nightmares about my surgery. But in all honesty I trust my surgeon, but ultimately my trust is in GOD. I work at the hospital I'm going to have my surgery at so I'm comfortable. What I am uncomfortable with is not being able to get my hands on my medical records. I want to see what the surgeon did to my belly. My current surgeon said he won't know the extent until he gets in there:eek: I had a scope done of my stomach and all I saw was a big black hole with redness around the staple line breakdown. OOh sorry, didnt' mean to go into such detail, but I had to get it out......thanks for letting me vent

Protein is very important for our hair's growth and health. Since you can eat only two ounces of food, perhaps taking protein in other forms, such as whey protein and spirulina will work for you. Anything you do for your overall health will be helpful for your hair too.

I wish you a wonderful, successful recovery from your surgery!:)
