Does Henna condition if it doesn't release?

If I mix henna with warm water and use it immediately with Indigo does it still condition the same? I don't want the red color at all...just black and the conditioning.

I know I can get Cassia in the future, but right now I have 2 pounds of henna I need to use up.

THANKS!

Yep, it will still condition. I haven't release any henna in 4-6 months. The problem is it will also still color your hair even if you don't release it. It won't be dramatic (esp. if you mix it w/ indigo), but you will see it.

You're the henna EXPERT!! I'm trying to avoid having to do two seperate applications. I want black, shiny hair...no red. I read that you have to do the henna for the indigo to last. Also, I read that the henna is what conditions, not the Indigo. What's your experience??

THANKS!!!

I read that boiling water will reduce the coloring effect, so I tried it. I didn't really want a color release, but I was prepared for a change in case I got one anyway . It felt wonderfully warm as I mushed it into my hair immediately after mixing it with the boiling water--and it began releasing color straightaway. My hands were orange by the time I was done. I left it on for just 45 minutes but definitely saw a warm shade of rich chestnut red-brown when it was dry.

You could try mixing henna with cassia to cut the coloring effect even more; I did that the last time with regular warm tap water and even tho I used it right away I still got additional color, but less of it. Be prepared for at least some color before you put it into your hair... or just use cassia to assure you'll avoid any sort of deposit.

You're welcome.

Mixing henna and indigo together will get you a warm brown color not jet black. Check out the pictures starting on page 42. http://www.hennaforhair.com/freebooks/hennaforhair.pdf

It shows:

what half indigo half henna mix looks like
what 1 part henna and 2 parts indigo looks like
and what henna over indigo looks like

ETA: My experience is that indigo doesn't condition as well nor does it impart like henna. :(

Thanks, Ladies!

I guess I should have bought Cassia and Indigo. I thought you HAD to buy regular henna first and then apply indigo. I didn't know I could do the Cassia and then Indigo over that. So, Cassia is just as good at conditioning as regular henna?

thanks again!!
