Does Gel lock out moisture to the hair?

Maybe....but I use natural gels like kiss my face. aubrey .. pure aloe vera gel etc...that have moistrizing properties in them like aloe or panthenol

Gel can be bad if you use one with alcohol in it. It will dry out your hair. I use Fantasia IC daily and have never had an issue. I rinse/cowash daily btw.

I use Kinky-Curly Custard (KCC) and my hair stays moisturized FOR DAYS! It's pricey but it's worth it just for the moisturizing properties alone!

Ecostyler doesnt for me. I am heavy handed with my leave in and sealant underneath it though. Throughout the week I will spray the outside of my bun with moisture spray(Sta Sof Fro) and touch up with more gel if needed for a smooth look. I do not use gel on my length:)

Gel can definitely cause your hair to dry out, so many people use a moisturizer (liquid, creme, butter, etc) before adding their gel.

not if you use a leave-in underneath or add oil to it. i use darcy's botanicals leave-in underneath and afroveda whipped gel before styling on wet hair

Thanks for the tip! I experimented with gel when I twisted my hair. Not only did it stay more fresh looking, it did not shrink up as much as it usually does. I will be using this method from now on to do my twists.:yep:

I don't look to gels to add any moisture to my hair. I make sure it is moisturized before adding any gel to it. If my hair is well moisturized before I apply the gel, then it tends to stay that way for days.
