I have a 16oz bottle of certified organic Jarrow Forumula's Coconut Oil

and even though I don't often put it in the refridgerator because I'm too lazy to keep on remelting it, (its supposed to melt easily but mine doesn't, not really). And I just started noticing that it has a bit of a funky smell to it now. I noticed this after I used it in my hair :nono: and it still made my dcs work just a little better, but i'm a little worried. Is this something to be worried about?

My coconut oil has an expiration date, so I'm going to say yes it does go bad. But if I ever felt it looked or smelled funny I would dispose of it immediately regardless of the expiration date.

yeah I think i will toss it. I have not had it for that long, I guess these bottles don't last for very long...

I just wish I had caught a whiff of it BEFORE I put what might have possibly been a rancid oil in my hair :barf::barf::barf:

anybody have tips for storage? I dont like to keep it in the fridge because I like to keep it in liquid form, but I guess I have to?

I would imagine it would go bad faster at warmer temps that keeps it liquid

I love mine more solid

and have stored them in the fridge before, it does keep them fresh

Does it have a sort of nutty smell? That is how my Parachute oil smells that I got from an Indian store. Almost all of their stuff is expired before it gets to the US anyway. I was thinking about tossing it too.

OOh mine too! I just got it the other day and the smell makes me want to vomit! :bah: I am throwing mine away as well.

i never noticed an expiration date, but one time i saw lil white balls in it. i thought it was cause of what i mixed it with (that i dont remember). it was pretty old though

I have the Parachute oil as well, everyone says this is how it smells, I can't figure out why it doesn't smell like the coconut oil I get from GNC? It smells like fresh coconut, the Parachute smells like old bacon grease:lachen:It might have something to do with the one from GNC being RAW, UNREFINED, UNPROCESSED, UNHEATED, CERTIFIED ORGANIC. The Parachute oil says none of this, but just that it's scientifically filtered to remain fresh longer, The GNC label says coconut oil has the longest self life of any oil. I actually ingest the one from them , I wouldn't THINK about doing this with the Parachute, BUT MY HAIR LOVES IT I'm keeping mine.:yep:

I am wondering about the coconut oils from the Indian Store. They don't smell coconut-y at all, IMO. They smell like bacon grease to me too, yet they still work.
