If so, how do your wrap it and what size is the scarf. I am considering keeping my hair under wraps all summer while studying, so I don;t have the touch it each morning. However, I have to go into Manhattan every day to attend my review class. I don;t want to look like Aunt Jeminma (sp?)

I used to have wear my hair in African wraps...using a REALLY BIG scarf, actually more of a sarong. It looked really nice, but girl...it was HOT!

I can't even wear a scarf in bed at night without my husband making a negative comment everytime, he calls me Little Richard, or James Brown, but I still continue to wear it.

I do if I don't feel like messing with my hair. some people look at me like I'm a crack head or something , but I feel lkie this if I am not doing any thing special why not wear my scarf out side.

I have thought about doing this too... if I don't have to go anywhere though. I want to just keep my hair in a bun and covered my whole head with a scarf.

I just have one of those so-called magic growing scarfs that's long and rectangular. I wear the scarf two ways:

1. Place the middle of the scarf around my hairline, tie it in the back, and twirl the excess length of the scarf around into a bun.

2. Place the middle of the scarf around the back of my head, bring the excess length to the front, cross it in the front, bring the excess length to the back and tie it at the nape.

I hope that makes sense.

What?! Puleeze...homey would sleep on the couch so long, he's be begging to sleep with James Brown...hmmf

Don't be messing with the "do", ya know?

OT: Please tell hubby to leave James alone...he's my favorite entertainer :lachen:

I would love to learn how to do those sexy wraps also!!
I'll be braided up but I want to have a variety of things to do with my style!
Thanks for the steps Poohbear!! :look:

I have worn a scarf outside. I fold my scarf into a triangle and tie at the back of my head in a knot (think Alicia Keys). It's simple and and doesn't make you look like Aunt Jemima

My godsister wears scarfs on her head sometimes and I think she did what chocolate01 said. And it looked cute. I think you just have to know how to wear it right.

I wear bandana-sized silk scarves tied on my head quite a bit and get quite a few compliments. Sometimes there are a few "sculpted" curls sticking out on the sides of my head (think curly sideburn kinda' things) and then sometimes there may be a few tendrils hanging down in the back. Also, make sure you have some jewelry on (and a touch of make-up too, if you wear it). Being able to pull it off maybe also has something to do with the scarves. They're decorative (think Coach neck scarves and some of the like) and they coordinate very well with my earrings/clothes, etc. HTH.

co-signing on what you said about the scarf you choose to wear. That is a huge part of it. Also I agree about the earrings as well will help to dress it up and make it look like an accessory and not like your ready for bed.

Yes. I will wrap my hair and put a scarf to match my outfit over it, especially if I want the wrap to stay in the whole day to get a smoother look for the evening. I also wear my hair wrapped up on occasion with just a few large black bobby pins holding it in place and no scarf on it. People look at me funny, but I am not about to go out in this 80 degree heat with 100% humidity and sweat my hair out, when I know I have thangs to do that night. And, since I don't use heat, that's how I keep it sleek. I don't really wear a wrap all the time anymore, but on occasion, I will wear my hair wrapped around my head out to the store or something.

A lady at my job wears a scarf almost everyday. It's one of those big, solid color scarves they sell in the BSS. She told me she gathers it in the back like a ponytail and wraps it around like a bun. They do look pretty presentable when you have on earrings and stuff.

I wear scarfs all the time, now that i'm trying to grow my hair out. I don't wrap it up like I'm going to bed...but I will wear a pretty decorative scarf as a headwrap, or a headband ... in a hot sec.

I wear scarves from time to time, sometimes the big silk ones - I do all kinds of things with them, with some large sunglasses they look HOT! Sometimes I wear really large pieces of fabric - usually from india or bali or something - and wear that as a headwrap, it works best when I have braids because the wrap has something to hold on to - and it always gets alot of attention. Use nice fabric or scarves,a beautiful piece of silk will look nice even if it is tied very simply.

Sometimes I just don't be in the mood for wearing my hair all neat or how I'll like it, so yes I'll throw an African wrap on so quick! The size of my fabric which is stiff is a yard and a half. I can do it with my eyes closed, but how I can explain it in the easiest way possible is to do it like this:

1. Lay the stiff fabric the long way, with the print lying underneath on your bed.
2. Take the left top corner, fold it in like a triangle.
3. Take the right bottom corner, fold it in like a triangle.
4. Now bunch the fabric together from both the left and right side.
5. Have hair already prepped, combed or whatever
6. Put wrap on forehead part way onto front of head.
7. Wrap the left and right side you're still holding toward the back of your head and bring the right side to the left front and the left side to the right front.
8. Pull up a little whats on the front of your head to make the crown effect.
9. Tie what you brought to the front one time.
10. While those two pieces are hanging, look in the mirror and fix your crown all the way around front, sides, and back.
11. Now, take what's hanging and bring them to the back of your head as if you're tightening it up, but tuck the ends into the fabric already wrapped.
12. Viola, you got a wrap.

I hope this is a good explanation, or that this helped somebody.

It only takes me less than a minute to do it.

And it don't look sloppy either, very, very neat and pretty.

I like to wear a hat with a scarf. Think Alicia Keys or ol' school Pimp style , if you will. The hat has to have some flare to it though and I usually go with a colorful silk scarf. No Aunt J here.

I do :yep:
