Vevster, I've heard that too. My multi, Twinlab Allergy Multi Caps, doesn't have iron at all.

According to this article, it's very rare that one will need an iron supplement unless a doctor prescribes it for, say, anemia. Perhaps that's because it is found in so many foods (eggs, fish, meat (esp liver), greens) and it is stored in the body, meaning you could easily have too much? I guess unless you have symptoms of iron deficiency, (dizziness, hair loss, brittle nails, lethargy, etc) you can consider yourself OK without the supplement. And if you think you might have the deficiency, it's probably a good idea to let a doctor determine that. Apparently a deficiency of a B vitamin can also cause anemia.

I have a special condition --- hemoglobin C that makes me low in iron, so the extra iron is all good. I like the regime so far..

I make sure to take my multi-vitamin (which has iron in it and to a lesser degree, some calcium) separately from my calcium pills (which helps with my achy, creaking bones....and I'm only 33). I understand, from when I was pregnant, that the iron hinders the absorption of calcium (or is it the other way around?); so I learned to take the two at different times of the day!

I don't know about the clashing with other vitamins...I know that it interfers with thyroid medication(the absorbtion)...so I took that in the morning and the iron at lunch. I am no longer anemic...but I was taking iron under a Dr's supervision. Once my levels were up he had me cut back to every other day....be carefull you can get too much iron... I always get blood tests done...
