OK, so the coils are that small huh. I sometimes twirl my hair with my fingers only to create spirals.

yeah .. my sister told me to take a rat tail comb and twirl my hair on the comb ...

I'll try it .. i guess ... but I was hoping someone could help me

I don't have any suggestions but I know you didn't do the BC and not tell anyone!! Trying to sneak it all up in the convo :D . Congrats and lets see some pics!!

I usually just twirl a section of hair at a time between my fingers to do this style. You can also you a rattail comb--I find this to be difficult to do on my own hair, so I just use my fingers instead. Be prepared because it does take a long time to do. Make sure to use some sort of holding or curl definition product too. I like Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Hair Tea Soft Hold Gel. Also, using a rattail comb does allow the style to last longer. The Motowngirl website has directions here.

Hey Choco,
I'm a little late but ....
HAHAHa I did do the bc ! he he . but I don't have any pics .. so i didn't what to say anything lol...

THe pics do look like a straw set. I was thinking about combtwists though, which is similar to what you mentioned with using a rat tail comb and some gel. Depending on the length of your hair you could use the small jheri curl rollers and get the same effect.

i want to learn how to do this too........do i use the rat tail end or the ends with the teeth? i just tried it but its like my hair is too long for it. when i get to a point, the comb doesnt turn anymore...

Here are the directions for the comb coils:
1. Conditioned wash hair
2. Blot dry hair..but not completely dry
3. I applied a small amount of moisturizer all throughout my hair.

4. Now section off your hair as small or as large as you would like the comb coils. I prefer medium sized because small ones are hard to detanlge.

5. Now taking a very small amount of activator gel or Elasta QP mango butter these were the products I used, you can use something else if you aren't fond of them), smooth it through the section you are coiling. Comb through. Now take the hair and twirl it around the finger (the same manner as you would do with a curling iron except its your finger). When your hair is completely coiled around the finger hold for a few seconds, and then pull your finger through the bottom. If your hair is curly there shouldnt be a problem with your hair holding the coils. Those with more of a kinky/noncurly texture sometimes use rattail combs to get theirs to hold But Im not to familiar with that method.

6. Do this with the entire head. Your hair may get a little dry when you are almost done so you can respray the hair that is not yet coiled with water.

7. I mainly free styled with them. I just parted where ever necessary and went from there. Don't worry about getting the parts too straight because your roots will puff up just a bit so you wont be able to see the part anyway Esp in the back where you can't see.

8. Now the first time I did them I wasnt too fond of how they looked. But they looked a lot better after they dry competely. Tie your head with a satin scarf or bonnet or however you wrap your hair up at night. Just be sure not to do it too tight because you dont want your hair to be smashed to your head when you wake up.

9.after leaving the coils in for at least a day, you can pull them apart if you would like. I tend to like the "wild/fun" look which was why I did that. To pull them apart I took separated them the same way I would do as if Im untwisting my hair You dont have to do all of them. The more hair you untwist the bigger it would look. It just separates them more and it should look as if you have a strawset in your hair.

hth

OHHHH Ayeshia .... Thanks so much ... using my finger is a much better idea... I can't wait to do this .. I know it going to take me a few hours LOL
