Does anyone here REGULARLY GO TO THE SALON?

I seriously plan to just sit back and pay to get my hair done. I'm tired of trying to do it myself and obsessing over what I could do better.

I just recently found someone who cut and relaxed my hair the way I wanted. So, I plan to just go to her every 3 weeks for a wash-and-style and then a relaxer at either the 6 week or 9 week checkpoint.

I just got my hair cut on Sunday and relaxed on Monday (had to think about it... :) ). Already, I can tell the difference.

The only thing is that every 3 weeks might be too long...I have gone that long before though :scratchch . As long as it still looks good, isn't greasy, and my scalp is good...I'm cool.

Does anyone else do this? Or know of someone who does? I have a homegirl who did (and still does I think) do this. She has always had beautiful hair. Her hair didn't start tripping until she tried to do it herself more often.

Believe it or not, I have friends that go to the salon TWICE or three times a week and still have dry, brittle jacked up hair. It's all in who your stylist is, what products they use... and if they are interested in promoting healthy hair (or whether they're just interested in styling.)

I go to the beauty shop once a week on Mondays for a Deep Conditioning and Style. I then CO wash at home with a rollerset one or two more times that week.

The routine helps me stretch my relaxers a much longer time and helps eliminate breakage, splitting and other hair headaches I used to have before I went weekly.

BTW, I love the updo in your album , itismehmmkay!

I stopped going to the salon regularly in summer 02. My stylist was taking it upon herself to trim my hair, whether it needed it or not. I went for a touch-up in Jan 05, and another stylist combed the relaxer through my edges!!!! I told her not to, and she stopped...I don't have a nappy texture...my hair is very fine and will relax bone straight with a mild relaxer every time, so I don't know why she did that! I just knew my edges would be bald! I won't ever go to a salon again...my mom can do my re-touches at home, and I know how to do my own color (which is all natural). I can do my own style if I need to for a special occasion. My hair does much better with me doing it at home...I don't use heat, and a lot of stylists are slack about deep conditioning, which I am not!

I only go to a salon when I get a touchup or on a special occassion and my hair has thanked me for it. :ohwell: I agree with the person who talked about some people going to the salon all the time and STILL having JACKED UP hair. Learning to do my hair at home is one of the main things that has helped my hair grow. Why? Because at the salon they are all about money and getting you out of the chair quickly and having your hair look good when you leave the salon -- not about your hair's health. So I try to gently take care of my hair myself and baby it with some form of a treat every day and the rare and gentle use of bone combs. I haven't brushed my hair in weeks, LOL!

I used to go to the salon every 2 weeks (back when I had permanent work). But now that my money is iffy, I only go for a touch-up. I get a friend of mine to shampoo and condition it every 2 weeks until my next touch-up (every 8 weeks).

I go every 2 weeks. I was doing it myself for a while but I decided to go back to the salon. Luckily, I have a stylist who really cares about the health of my hair. :)

I go to the salon every week but I bring my own products. I can't be bothered to do my own hair every week!!

I used to go weekly, but hated waiting all day. Going to the salon was like putting in a days work, no matter where I went. So I quit going regularly about 5 years ago, I have been only going to get my ends trimmed, but now I will do this myself. Until I find a beautician who knows how to tell time I will do my own hair.

I dont trust stylists. back in Nigeria, they treated my hair like sh*t and used to make comments about the Lack of thickness and texture of my hair. Snce ive been here, i havnt been to one but i plan to for my next touch up and if they mess with my hair, ima raise hell :orders:

No I don't. Everytime I think I've found the perfect stylist all of my hard work just goes down the drain. I grow my hair out myself, get it nice and healthy then these stylists (at least the ones here in Atlanta) start over processing it or something. Next thing I know my hair starts thinning out. Last year I had to do a big chop and practically start all over because of this. So, from now on I'll continue doing my wash-n-sets myself and everything except relaxing. I'll let DSD do my relaxers now. :D

I am also fortunate enough to have a stylist who cares about my hair but I'm thankful to LHCF for teaching me so I can be less dependent on him for hair care.

I go regularly. I ALWAYS let a professional do my relaxers and I love the feeling of getting a fresh wash and set. Ohhhhhhhhhhh! If I don't have the money to go every two weeks for a wash and set ($30) I'll do it myself, but never do my own relaxers.

I have found a stylist who:
doesn't trim my hair when I don't want her to
Knows how to do many styles
is good on time
always available when I'm ready to make appointments
gives great advice
has great hair herself!

my moms been going to the same lady EVERY two weeks on fridays at 10am faithfully with few exceptions for the past few years.

At one point, I was going every other week, but then I ended up just not having the money to keep doing that, plus I got sick of salons where all they did was run behind time and gossip. I had a much better experience once I started going to the Spa to get my hair done, but that woman always wanted to cut my hair/trim my ends.

I think I have only been to the salon once this year. It was my first experience at a Dominican salon and it was very good, I just havent had the chance to make another appt to get there.

I do!

Every other week and I think that may be the culprit for my hair not growing as quickly as will like. I go and get it blow dried and flat ironed, but recently I have been getting more rollersets and wraps.

But when I do myhair myself it gets extremely tangly and ends up breaking when I just try to get out the knots. I also can't style so my hair usually looks jacked up the week i do it myself.

So it is a win lose situation. Sometimes you should treat yourself.
