I think I've heard about this before, but...

Does anyone have some tips for a "cheat set"?

By "cheat set" I mean a quickie method of rollersetting hair when you're pressed for time.

Thanks in advance

I don't clearly understand what a 'cheat set' means but what I think it means is a rollerset on pressed dry hair?
If so, I've done this with a hard blow (sounds dirty) where the stylist sectioned the hair, applied mousse, end paper and rolled me up!
Is that what you were thinking?

I think you can find the best tutorial in Sylver2's fotki. That is, if you're asking about scarf or ponytail rollersetting. You might also do a search on "rollerset" or "rollersetting". HTH

I'am a compleeettte failure at rollersetting but Dsylla told me that she rollersets with flexirods on dry hair.
So I just slightly sprayed my dry hair with S-curl to dampen it and put some flexirods in,let's see how this will turn out(I'll take it down tomorow but my hair is almost completry dry again after 30 min).

I think flexirods are supereasy per se and how we see on Dsylla they work great on dry hair:yep:

Also Pocahontas posted a thread about a cheat set that came out beautifully and might be my only other hope for ever getting a rollerset done:grin:

No. I'm talking about a fast way to put wet hair up in a rollerset. But thanks for the advice

When I'm pressed for time and I need to rollerset, I put my hair in 8 ponytails, roll them on really huge flexi rods and within 40 mins my hair is dry. As a matter of fact, that's the only way I do roller sets now. The results are so pretty, I don't have to sit under the dryer for 2 hrs and the curls last all week.

Thank God for those 1 1/4 inch flexi rods.

I'm going to have to try this out with my rollers and see what kind of results I get

To the bold, that's what I do.

Does this leave band lines in your hair? I hate those and I don't like using heat on my hair often, which I would think you would have to do (flat iron) in order to get the crease out of your hair when you're in a rush. I know that wrapping gets rid of it, but not right then and there if you want to do your hair and then walk out of the door.

I use ouchless bands. I don't secure the thight though. Just tight enough to hold but not to put strain on the hair.

I have a regular dryer. Actually that's what got me into rollersetting with the flexi rods. Because the hair is spread out on the rod, it dries faster and I don't have to endure that heat for so long.
I don't think I want to ever go back to rollersetting the old fashion way.

I set it to the highest setting and throw a towel over the dryer to keep all the air trapped. Ghetto I know but it works
.

Do you have a regular dryer or do you have a Pibbs? Also, what temp do you use when drying? Medium, low, cool, high? Thanks!

I flat iron it out on the lowest setting. But I don't wrap my hair after. Those curls are so pretty I can't bring myself to wrap them out. I just keep them until the next wash.

That ponytail method does work well..it works on my transitioning hair..wish I knew about it when I was fully relaxed. I normally do two on each side and one in the crown area. You do have to smooth out the area where the bands were, but its still less time consuming than sitting 2 hours under the dryer. :)

I'm gonna try this sweetcashew......where did you get the huge flexirods? Do you have any pics of the results? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sweet Cashew,

What products do you put on your hair to do the set?

THANKS!

Yeah, the cheat set was something I used to do back in high school.....I just made up the name cheat set because I always told people I was cheating to get the look of a rollerset, lol. Anyway, the album is in my fotki.

Here's a thread....http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=174631

And here's another version that I tried w/ more ponytails that i like even better......http://public.fotki.com/Pokahontas/new-pics/tried-something-new/

I LOVE IT! I cant believe i missed that thread!

Do you have anymore methods----i see you had the banding also...anything else over there lol

Im transitioning now, and i know your fully natural, so with just drying in one ponytail, was there any difficulty with areas in the middle of the hair not getting straight, or was there any trouble combing the hair like with airdryed hair?

Really love it because i hate manipualtion esp. on wet hair.

Yeah, I have quite a few methods in my album. Feel free to browse around, I can't remember all that I have in there, lol.

The cheat set with one ponytail does take a long time to dry in the middle where the pony is but the rest dries rather fast. If I'm pressed for time I'll just take it down after the hair on the rollers is fully dry then slick it back in a ponytail and tie down with a scarf......either go back under the dryer for a little bit or let it air-dry the rest of the way. This usually helps to straighten it out because it will be a little crinkly. I don't have any trouble with combing it.
