Does anyone else's hair get hard

I've tried to Pre-Poo with just Olive Oil, I didn't like it at all. My hair was hard too, felt really weird. :(

Yesterday I tried it mixed in a protein reconstruction conditioner (as a pre-poo), that was GREAT. I don't think I'll venture back to using just oils for my pre-poos.

For some reason I just can't usse only oils to pre-poo. I have to wet my hair and use conditioner WITH the oils.

Yes! I can't use olive oil to pre-poo because it makes my hair hard and it causes my hair to tangle.

wow and i thought i was the only one!!! olive oil does NOT AGREE with my hair full stop, only when used in a hair mask with other things!

I have the same issue. Olive oil is usually a no-no for my hair. It has always made it hard, but I notice the effect is worst in the winter when my hair is a little drier anyways... or when I have clearly used too much oil.

I don't use oils a a pre-poo anymore. :nono: I did once and my hair tangled up badly as I rinsed and shampooed. That was the only time my hair tangled too.

This happened to me whan I was still relaxed, but I think I used waaaaay too much. Now that I'm natural, I heat the oil and apply to wet hair as a hot oil treatment and the results are LOVERLY!;)

when they Pre-shampoo with Olive Oil? Is it supposed to feel like that?

yup, my hair hates voo when it's alone, I can mix it w/ other things and it will do much better.

My hair can't handle oils alone either. In my case its not just evoo, its any oils! I always have to use a waterbased moisterizer in between.

Hi Blueabyss333,

I thought it was just me, but my hair does not like pure Olive Oil either. No matter how I use it, it always makes my hair hard. I no longer add any oils to pre-shampoo or do any hot oil treatments, because if oil just sits on your hair to lock in moisture it can't really penetrate the hair strands. Rather it just leaves a film on your hair? With the exception of Emu Oil, which is one of the few oils which actually penetrate hair strands.

When I tried the Cayenne Pepper soaked in Olive Oil treatment I ended up with a very dry and flaky scalp. It was some kind of contact dermatitis, which was a nightmare to cure or bring under some control. No my hair and scalp definitely does not pure like Olive Oil.

Hi Meech, I'm sorry to hear about that. Is it better now?

Pure olive oil doesn't agree with my hair either. It makes me shed like crazy and my hair feels weird afterwards. If there's just a little bit mixed in with other stuff then it's fine, but something about pure or mostly olive oil is murder on my hair. I wonder why? :scratchch

AHA!!! Now I know what was causing my hair tangles. I suspected it was doing a prepoo with oil (any oil) but wasn't sure. Thanks for the heads up. I'll just prepoo with conditioner and some oil mixed in from now on.

I'm not faithful on doing pre-poos so i'm really unsure of how my hair behaves. But this is something that I was thinking about...perhaps if we ladies were using true olive oil (expensive) not the cheap kind found in regular stores...maybe we would reap the true benefits of the oil. I thought about this and i will purchase a bottle as soon as I can get to a gourmet store (and have $20 to spare)...

I still haven't been able to find a certified, quality olive oil at gourmet or health stores, just online. I am curious to see the difference in my skin and hair, as well as experience the difference in taste and health benefits.

My hair really hates olive oil. It just gives me crunchy, hard hair. Actually, almost any oil applied alone to my hair has a bad effect. I don't use them anymore.

The one I was using was expensive and "pure"
