I want to seek medical attention for a large short patch that I’ve had for over a year. It’s not a bald spot. There’s hair there but it just refuses to grow and it’s dry. I’m rockin’ the old school Salt n’ Pepa look but not by choice. :nono:

I want to consult with medical professional before I just give up and cut all my hair off. I don’t know where to start. Should I start with a hormone specialist or a dermatologist? Can someone recommend a dermatologist that deals with black hair and scalp within a couple of hour’s drive of Michigan. I have a feeling that I will have to travel to a city with large African American population

Please Help!

Have you had a complete checkup lately? I mean, with thyroid, iron, hormone, and vitamin tests. Yes vitamin. You could be lacking in the vitamin department too.

After those tests, if all is normal, then a dermatologist may be in order. They will be able to do further tests. They can look below the scalp with ultrasound. They can also do biopsies to tell what's going on there.
