I've been looking at some conditioners that are designated for color treated hair that may also be beneficial to relaxed hair. It seems as though relaxed and color treated hair may need need the same thing - a balance of moisture and strength.

One particular conditioner I stumbled upon was Kenra Color Maintenance Conditioner (silk protein conditioner for color-treated hair). I'm thinking about trying this conditioner as a mild protein to incorporate into regimen. The ingredients sound superb for relaxed hair:
 •
Hydrolyzed Silk Protein A protein that provides strength to hair.
Squalane A lightweight emollient moisturizer derived from olive oil.
Benzophenone-4 Sunscreen for UV protection from drying and color fade.
 • Color Maintenance Conditioner Complex (Chamomile, Horse Chestnut, Sage, Nettle, Lemon Balm, Coltsfoot Leaf, Rosemary, Birch, Horsetail, Lemon, Tea Tree, Laurel, Peppermint and Marigold) A complex that provides scalp soothing benefits, adds shine and moisture to hair and provides an uplifting aroma.
Ladies - Do you use shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins designated for color treated hair, although you do not have color? If yes, what are your products and do you see an added bonus in the health of your hair?

TIA!

I have once before. I had the feria highlights kit and I didn't get around to using the highlight, but the conditioner was fantastic. My hair was so soft and lovely. I want to use more color designated products, but I don't know which ones yet.

No, but I always get the damaged and dry formula although my hair is not damaged (beyond relaxing it) :yep:

I use Sasson Color Secur leave in spray and condish--on the leave in keratin is ingredient # 3, it also has SAA, and castor oil in it.

OT: FlowerHair, your siggy is hilarious.

I use Nexxus Color Ensure as a final rinse after DC'ing. It does contain protein though.

I use Nexxus Color Ensure as a final rinse after DC'ing.

Please list the benefits of using this....I assume it makes your hair soft. Is that a leave-in? Does it have protein in it? I've heard of it, but never tried it.

Yes and they made my hair feel great at first but they left my strands very heavy and coated after a while.

Sometimes, but only after checking the ingredients. Color care products tend to be more moisturizing/strengthening.

Thanks! The ingredients sound wonderful!

This is interesting...what products did you use?

It has a low pH- like 3- and it seals the cuticle of the hair. Its sort of like an ACV rinse or Porosity Control. I rinse my DC and detangle while rinsing and then apply the Ensure and leave on for about 3 minutes. If there were any rough spots that didn't want to detangle under the shower the first time, they usually detangle really easy while rinsing the Ensure out.

HTH

Ensure does have protein. It's a light conditioner. I don't use it as a leave-in; I always rinse.

I did for awhile, especially when trying to figure out how to fix my porosity. Color Treated products tend to have a lower pH which for people like me that easily get overly porous hair, is a great thing.

Shut yo mouth! It sure does! (Duh! it says protein right on the container ) Well, if you're protein sensitive you may want to watch out. I'm not so it works for me.

it has hydrolyzed collagen

Ensure doesn't have protein. It's a light conditioner. I don't use it as a leave-in; I always rinse.

I've found color products tend to have more protein. Helps keep the color from fading so quickly.

I use keracare shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. I also use Dumb Blonde reconstructor for highlighted hair. I find all these products to be very moisturizing even though I do not have color treated hair.

Yep. SistaSlick mentioned this as a solution in one of her porosity articles, to use prods made for color-treated hair for this precise reason, to seal in the holes in the cuticle.

Re: Do you use products designated for "Color Treated Hair" although you don't have c

Ladies...thanks for the info b/c it's really helpful.

Like most of you stated I can see how color treated products can be more moisturizing/strengthening compared to regular poos/cond especially for overly porous and / or relaxed hair.

Since Aphogee changed their formula I will be trying out mild protein conditioners in the near future. I'd prefer the ones for color treated hair b/c I'm loving the ingredients and the extra benefit. So ladies please keep chiming in!

Thanks ladies.

JD, I tried both ACV & PC, and didn't like neither made my hair feel.

I do wanna try Kenra's Color Shampoo though.
