I never understood the importance of using a leavein, then a moisturizer...esp. if they have the same ingredients or similar.

Soooo.....:) Do you use one?
Why or why not?

Yes. To be honest, I don't know if I'm using the leave-in more for added protection that I might have washed out, or for slip during detangling?

Most leave ins are water based, so the moisturizer adds moisture back to prevent breakage.

Yes most definitely! I wouldn't be without using one. For me I never have problems with tangles (knock on wood) leave-in for me are more for moisture and manageability before drying and for combing. I would never comb my hair after a wash w/o one.

During the week I just started using a pea sized amount in my hair and sealing with coconut oil. I find it's extremely light and doesn't weigh down my hair like moisturizers often do. My hair is REALLY light and fluffy with body that MOVES, which it doesnt seem to do when I use moisturizers. I currently use Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Leave-In or HE Break's Over leave-in.

Thanks for answering!

So your saying that most leavins are not really good moisturizers, that they just kind of help with slip after washing and give you back conditoner that you washed out kinda? ( duh to me. lol that sounds like the defintion of leavein lol)

BTW!!!! Your hair is on point!

Did you really just start in Dec. 2007 or are you an old member with a new name. If your new, your so lucky hair is gorgous. You'll be at APL in no time. What a wonderful length to start what is your regimen?

I use NTM and Aveda elixir as my leave-in but I am not really sure if it does anything bcos I just started using them. So far, I have not had any major breakthrough which is why I voted that I am not sure.:ohwell:

Okay thanks!

What is your leavein and moisturizer?

So for you its the light version of a regular moisturizer, and a detangler

Alrighty. Im seeing where this is going.

Your having excellent progress aswell---you just started your hair in December also?
My gosh.

I love my leave=in! It has turned my hair around! :yep: It definitely has helped me retain length - no question.

Definitely! My leave-in(s) provide moisture and that's why I use them. I use NTM, mane and tail conditioner, water mixed with SAA, glycerin, fermodyl 619, lecithin, I have a whole bunch of stuff I use at different times or mixed together and add to my hair after washing and DCing.

Yep. I have too. My hair would be ready to :catfight: me if I didn't.

Using a leave in after washing makes daily applications of moisturizer practically a waste of my time

I like all of the Herbal Essences leave in creams. Sunsilk creams are good even though I have replaced then with the HE ones. I also use Paul Mitchell the Conditioner and Giovanni direct.

My hair has so much moisture and slip when I use my leave in, I hardly have any breakage anymore. I don't use moisturizer at all, I use strictly leave in to moisturize my hair. I use Herbal Essences LTR and it's FANTASTIC :yay:

Honestly, I just started using leave-in in the last 2 months or so. Prior to that I was moisturizing a few times a week with VICL (total moisture) or other moisturizes that I was trying out.

I do not get many tangles but have noticed the difference in my rollerset with leave-in versus without. I use Shea Moisture shea butter leave-in after my wash & also about a dime sized amount every few days to moisturize. I seal with coconut oil.

Thanks for the compliments! I really love the Herbal Essences line of leave-ins as well. I currently use Long Term Relationship and Break's Over.

I never used to before coming to the boards. Once I added this step, my hair took off. I use a creamy leave in (Nexxus Headress or Lacio) and it helps with detangling and moisture retention. Love it!

I just started using a LIC. Right now I currently use a spray LIC called Soy Tri-Wheat LIC by Sexy Hair. So far, so good. I just started using it so I can't really tell a difference. However, I use a dominican LIC called Nacidt LIC and I love this stuff. I could use this without using setting lotion and my hair would be so soft, shiny and bouncy. I love it.

I need to go back to using GF Length & Strength leave in. I have no idea why I strayed... but Ive been using a lot of products that just aren't doing it.

Good thread, btw!:yep:

Leave ins moisturized, protect, and help detangle hair. I love leave ins. Aphogee's Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer and Infusium 23 Moisturologie Leave In Treatment are favorites of mine. I then seal with my daily moisturizer. My hair responds well to this method and airdries soft and moisturized.:yep:

I use leave in conditioner like Oyin Honey Hemp or the AfroDetangler as my 'moisturizer'. It's water based and leaves my hair (my current style is kinky twist extensions) moisturized and light. When my hair is loose, it requires a heavier moisturizer like ORS Olive Oil Hair Lotion which has a higher oil content and a creamier texture. It all depends on the needs of your hair.

ANYONE KNOW OF ANY HOMEMADE LEAVE IN CONDITIONERS?

I dont know ingredients off hand, but i've read about a couple of people using water and oils, or glycerin and stuff like that. :yep: Maybe some threads about it you can find in the search function if you havent tried already....WELCOME!

I have the CD leave-in but I can't use it b/c of my dermatitis. Since I have to poo everday I use Ojon Ultra Hydrating everyday....I just leave it in  and shampoo again the following day :yep:. Repeat 7 days/wk...goodee since I chopped my hair off...twa (after 20 yrs of relaxers, i'm all natural).

I am currently using Sebastian potion 9 wearable treatment.

I was not aware that there is a difference between a moisturizer and a leave-in:ohwell:

Brenda Sliker(or Silker) who wrote the first hair care book that i read, said that using a regular conditioner as a leave in was just as good. This is true in some cases(HE LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP...can you tell i really love this stuff:grin:),but in some cases, the condish is just too heavy, and leaves a fim on my hair.

What i've been doing for those really dry days is mixing both the Potion 9 and the LTR.
I know that i'll never have to worry about finding the perfect one as long as they keep making both of these.Seriously, that puts me at ease about a whole lot of hair problems:yep:

I usually don't rinse out my Trader Joe's conditioner. Whatever comes out by the time I get out of the shower is what's rinsed out, the rest i just keep in.

Me either
I wish i would have asked do you use a moisturizer AND a leave-in....becuase it seems some people use a leave-in, but they also use it as their daily moisturizer or as a moisturizer when they want to keep their hair light.
And I on the other hand use my daily moisturizer as a leavein after washing, and i dont use anything else.

My leave-in is my moisturizer or my moisturizer is my leave-in: Currently, I have Surya Henna's volume reducer with tucuma butter; color fixation with buriti oil; Ojon revitalizing mist; Back to Basics sunflower leave-in mist; Komazaa coconut hair milk and Palmer's replenishing hair milk, which is really more a lotion. They all are water-based and I apply one or the other daily on wet hair. After applying, I seal with a butter.
