to grow my hair to midback length in two years from now. let me give a few facts. My hair is 4a/4b. chin length. It is partially natural/partially relaxed. (i never did go fully with that bc, but i did cut some of the ends off). I haven't had a relaxer since august. I have been in braids/twists since august and i plan to do the crown and glory method for two years straight. I take about 2,000 mg of powder msm (i'am going to up that amount) and cod liver oil. I have been applying castor oil and joboba oil to the scalp, as well as and infusim 23/african pride mix to the braids/twists. I know i need to take more supplements but i can't swallow pills at all. i drink plenty of water and have drastically changed my diet. i even started exercising three weeks ago. see, what i really want to do is go back to my home towm for christmas break in two years, surprise my mom and friends there, with my hair, then come back and surprise all of my friends when i come back to college becasue they wouldn't have actually seen my hair except in braids. do you think it's possible? be honest and give suggestions please?

It's kind hard to predict that. Two years is a long time and we all have setbacks. I think you should start your goal out for a shorter length 1st and then move it up when you reach that goal.

well, i do have the goal of shoulder length by summer 07. but just in general do you think it would be possible to attain that much length in the matter of two years (plus a month)?

It depends on many factors, including how fast your hair grows and if you retain that length. In ideal conditions, 6 inches per year is possible. Some of the ladies here get more than that and some less. You can calculate right now how far away 12 inches is from your chin-length hair.

Well it is said that hair grows an average of 1/2 inch a year or 6 inches total. If you take growth aids to speed that up you could get more, but you would have to see what aids work and how much boost they give.

You also have to take care of your ends so you don't have to trim to even retain the 6 inches (or more) you get.

But, maybe I am not the one to give you the best answer. I am not a new growth measurer and I don't do too much long term goal planning as far an length is concerned. I just take care of my hair and hope for the best. :)

Maybe you will get more posts form other ladies....

thanks, honey and isis. i appreciate both your replies. 12 inches from my chin would be between bra and mid and good enough for me. i think i can do it.

eta: from the looks of the chart i'll probably hit brastrap, at least. then, i'll have senior year to work on midback length. phew, i should have majored in hairology.

I will have to agree with the other ladies. Keeping in mind that on average, you will get 1/2 inch per month, so thereby giving you approximately 12 inches in 2 years. But that depends on your growth rate is above or below average and also depends on what type of effect your growth enhancers have on your growth rate. However, it's not how much you hair you grow, it's how much you keep.

There are several other factors that are going to contribute to how much of that length you will keep (like if you are doing the things to properly maintain the ends and provided you don't have any setbacks).

So, to be honest, it's kind of hard to give a definitive answer to your question because there are quite a few variables, but on a positive note, there are some amazing success stories in some of the fotkis here on the board which is a testament to the fact that it can be done.....

Happy Hair Growing!!!

I agree with this, the first year of serious hair care for me was full of trial and error--finding the right conditioners, going back and forth with heat usage, chopping off up to 3" at a time, perfecting airdrying and then finally cutting off the heat damaged parts.

I have set mini goals, next goal is arm pit by the summer. With mini goals, it's easier to track progress and see results.

Like the ladies have said it's hard to predict exactly when you'll reach mid-back but do I think it's possible for you to get there one day? Yes.
You may get the length before you thought or later but getting the right products and routine to grow your hair is key, being patient, and not letting stylists cut off too much length just to keep your hair even or at a length that's easy for them to work with. I wish you luck & patience on your haircare journey.

Everything that the other ladies have said seems right to me. I also want to add that in addition to 1/2 inch a month for length, you have to consider the starting length of ALL of your strands. Let me explain:

It's taking me A LOT longer than I originally anticipated to reach my hair goals. When I started, most of my hair in the back reached shoulder length, but I also had breakage and shorter pieces throughout. During my first year, my hair got much thicker, due in part to the fact that all of my shorter strands were catching up. I didn't see the length I expected, but it was obvious that my hair got much fuller.

After that year, I was able to see exactly how my hair grows. After filling in, I'm starting to see dramatic changes in length. So I would just see how the first year goes, and then estimate how long it will take you to reach midback.

Hope that helps ;) .

Honestly, I think it is a stretch. It takes the average person 2 years to go from a short cut to full shoulder length hair. So from chin to midback would be further than that right? But like the other ladies said, it depends on a number of different variables. With the growth aides, who knows?

Great advice, lady. I hope it helps the OP because it sure helped me. I just started with LHCF in July 06 and I discovered the site because I was having major shedding. I'm so hungry for BSL that I could have easily gotten depressed if I didn't get there when I expected. Your note is an eye opener. I really need to see how my hair recovers from the shedding until my 1 year anniversary July 07 and then focus on BSL. THANKS...I'm on the right track now.:orders: :driver:

In 2 years you can be very close or at to your goal of Midback length!

Remember the length of your neck and torso are also factors on when you will reach Midback.

Shorter women would need less inches to reach midback than someone who is tall, like me.

It may help to actually measure the distance from your shoulders to midback- so you know exactly how many inches you need.

Good luck and keep growing :)

I am just reaching shoulder length now and am hoping to be bsl in 2 years...Midback I am aiming for maybe 3. I think it *is* possible to get to midbadk in 2 yrs but it would really be a stretch. Like the other ladies said, you would have to solidify your regime first and setbacks do occur.

great advice from everyone. i'm definitely taking in both the positives and negatives of trying to reach my goal. i don't have any heavy shedding besides what is normal for the head to lose, and i sure don't put any heat on my hair, which i would say is pretty full as is. so i think i'm just at the point as to really working on retaining length. seriously guys, thanks for the feedback.

yep, braids work wonders for me. No touch hairstyles also work such as french rolls and the antiquated waves.

Hey, Aloha_bef.

I must say that when using the Crown and Glory, don't forget to use the African-Royale or Pride Braid Spray for moisture to your hair.
