I've been on this forum for a while and I heard about pre pooing a lot but I just never bothered with it. It wasn't until I started getting a lot of breakage that i decided to do it weekly. Last night I washed and DC'ed. but I didn't use a pre-poo because it was late and I wanted to hurry up and do my hair. so I noticed when I was washing my hair I had hair all over my hands. And I'm thinking hmm, I didn't have any breakage when I combed my hair earlier so what's this about? plus I've been washing my hair myself for the past two weeks and I never had this problem. Then it came to me! The last times I washed my hair I did a pre poo with amla oil and dove conditioner. and I didnt last night and the other times I lost a lot of hair when I washed.

I have heard that people use pre poos to prevent dryness from the shampoo, but I never heard that it cuts down on the hair you lose during the washing process.

This is just a revelation I had last night. This is something I am going to be doing weekly now. I've been on this forum for two years but I am now starting to realize what my hair needs and likes. hopes this helps someone. :)

I agree, when I just shampoo my hair gets tangles and thats how I lose most of the hair but when I pre poo it's softer and less likely to tangle therefor I lose less hair.

I too have realize that. It is a big help. Now I am trying dc before shampooing to save time. I will see how that works.

I am really going to have to start pre-pooing (have'nt tried it yet). I always have some breakage when I wash my hair and if pre-pooing will help with that I am all for it!:yep: What are some good pre-pooing products?

I pre pood for the first time today using lekair cholesterol, there was not one hair in that sink. I followed my CON wash with a one hour deep condish of keracare and pc mixed, and finger combed. I did not see one broken hair during my wash and plait today.

I am new to trying to do my own hair. More out of my laziness.

What type of shampoo do you pre wash with?

Thanks,
Ebony

Ladies listen to her. I'm under the dryer right this very moment and I just went through the same thing .

After washing, I noticed my hair was very soft, hardly no strands in my hands and very easy to detangle before I rinsed. Then, I washed a 2nd time...TOTALLY different, MANY more stands, hard to detangle (while shampoo was yet in the hair) and hard and stiff feeling.

I to realized it was the prepoo (Dove and humecto) that made the difference.

I will not wash before pre poo'ing anymore.

A prepoo is when you put oil or conditioner on the hair before you shampoo it.:)

A few questions on things Im confused about:

1. Do you prepoo on dry hair or wet hair?
2. How long do you leave the product on?
3. Is there a need to pre-poo if you co-wash?
4. Do you still DC afterwards? (So Pre-poo/wash/DC?)

Thanks SO much in advance ya'll... I havent learned all the language on here yet. :)

I feel you might be on to something here:thumbsup: I normally sleep with the oils etc and then shampoo but last night I used tresemme conditioner on my dry hair and coat the whole thing and then proceed to wash and there was a huge difference I'm definitely doing this from now on I barely lost any hair! thanks chica;)

This is what i do too. sometimes I leave it in overnight, or maybe for about an hour. I do it on dry hair. This is going to be permanent part of my regimen.

Can someone up me on what a "pre poo" is. Is that pre shampooing your hair and then washing it??? Sorry I'm relatively new here

hi welcome to the board! a pre poo is when u put conditioner and/or oil on your hair and let it sit for a while and then u wash it out. I do mine on dry hair, and sometimes leave it overnight, or for just about an hour.

1. Do you prepoo on dry hair or wet hair? Dry Hair

2. How long do you leave the product on? An hour to all day

3. Is there a need to pre-poo if you co-wash? I'm not sure

4. Do you still DC afterwards? (So Pre-poo/wash/DC?) Last night I didn't.

Last night I tried a pre-poo, shampoo and a quick conditioner in the shower. My hair was so soft and felt so good I am going to try it again next week.
