I really love helping people with hair issues, whether it's suggesting a product or technique or a style idea. I love it.

Yesterday at lunch a few girls and I were just talking about hair for the full hour, I was glad to be able to suggest a product that would likely help one of the girls there.

Do you help people with their hair issues?
 
Only when they ask. I've had people ask me how did I get my hair so thick and long. My response of "I stopped relaxing" stops the conversation cold.:look:
 
Well since I have been on the forum my mom has asked me for advice. She sees the progress I am making and is now asking questions. And I love my mommy... I would always help her if she wanted me to... :yep:

Other people only if they ask me or we somehow get on the topic. I work mostly with guys so they don't ever really talk about hair. :drunk:
 
People don't usually want to here what I have to say. Probably because I overexplain, I feel like people should understand the problem better to really find a solution and I feel that there really aren't any easy answers.

I also do a lot of things to my hair that are against the grain so people think I am off my rockers.
 
I would, if they would ask. Most times, I'll get a compliment about my length and/or thickness; I say, "thank you," then only hope to be asked how I got it this way...they never ask. :nono: Ahh...well...:ohwell:
 
Only if people ask. When I first was looking up proper hair care I was excited and told almost ever black person I knew about Cathy Howse's book, but they didn't follow what it said and their hair still looks a mess till this day. So now since I been on LHCF I don't tell anyone anything.

I love helping people with their hair. Usually if people are complaining about their hair, i'll ask questions and give my input. That usually leads to conversation. People have actually followed my advice and have gotten good results and thanked me.
 
I love to when they ask..but they don't listen.:lol:
I think they are expecting 1 magical turnaround potion/product
 
No one asks for advice but I had another natural ask me about my hair right after my BC. I said I was co washing almost every other day for moisture. She shook her head and said that's too much and stated she last washed her hair a month ago and in the same breath commented on how long my hair was getting. I knew right then there was no use in my explaining any other part of my regimen.
 
I do, but never unsolicited.

I've tried helping my cousin with her fried and dry overprocessed relaxed hair that won't grow past her chin, but she got ticked off at me and refused to look at the website.

For the most part, everyone who knows me knows my hair obsession so if they have any questions they just ask.
 
I help but only when asked. I also encourage them to do research, what is the point of telling them about stuff if they can't take the time to research the products and the oils. I learned tons of stuff on here but I researched my own stuff as well.
 
Yes I do! My sister (she's a member here) sometimes will ask me for advice on what products to buy. Or she'll call me over to her house and say "I'll make you dinner if you do my hair" and since she cooks good I run over there quick! A few months ago I was at her house all day doing her hair, her daughter's hair, and my DD's hair. To me its fun so I don't mind.

Sometimes strangers ask me. I talk their ear off and give them my card. I never hear from them again LOL
 
No, I don't. I wear my hair up all the time so no one knows what my hair looks like. Even if I wore it down, I don't think that I would have an opportunity to give advice because there aren't many AA's in my town. The times that I've gone to Los Angeles, and talked to friends and family about hair............ well let's just say it didn't go very well.
 
I do all the time and I love it esp my mom she lives in cali and I have her co-washing, deep conditioning , moisturizing and sealing. When I visit her this year i got lots of thing to do and give for her hair and my sister. People on the street ask about my her I tell them the basics and give them my card if they're interested they'll call, but I wouldn't chase em.

I've tried to help my sister and a few of my gf's and they all seem to believe their hair stylist over me (that's because I wear a weave and they seem to think I'm bald headed) my sister would rather listen to a stylist at a "natural" hair salon who doesn't seem to know jack about how to care for her 4b hair...

They'll see when I have healthy MBL hair...:lachen::grin:....just kidding!
 
I have a hair guide that I wrote I usually print out and give to people. It pretty thorough and covers most challenges relaxed ladies have and some naturals. Ive put majority of my close female family members onto growing their hair out. And everybody wants to henna or indigo.
 
Yes, if asked :yep:.....Once one woman wanted all of the details:help2::help2: :help2:... I knew she was serious when she pulled a notebook and pen from her handbag and started writing furiously...she wanted ALL of the details & products.
 
I use the "don't ask, don't tell" program. Like what others have said, when you start telling them and they realize that they actually have to do something, most people I know lose interest. I get questions like:

"What do you mean I have to wash my hair more often?"

"I'm tired at night, why I got to do all this extra stuff?"

"Not heat? WTF?"

So, yeah. I'll help only if I know they're serious...
 
If people I know very well are lamenting their hair troubles I offer what's worked for me and let my hair's health speak for itself.

I've been burned offering advice as other have so it very much depends on the situation and who it is.
 
I have friends that'll ask me how to correct a problem like thinning, balding, or growth. I like to help if I can.:yep:
 
No, unless people ask. I don't get too many people who ask though. Only once the lady at the cash register asked me about some NTM I was buying because her relaxed/dyed hair was dry. When I said something about stretching and not using so much heat she quickly pointed out that I was natural and had no idea what I was talking about lol.

I have like 1 or 2 friends who ask me about hair care and are serious, but the rest will ask and then quickly disregard my answer because I have that "good" hair blah blah blah blah blah. I'm so tired of hearing that. I work hard to maintain my hair and keep it healthy.

As for my family, most of the women have long hair so they don't ask and whenever I try and help my mom out she's like. "oh is that something else you got from the internet."
 
YES IF ASKED I TRIED TO HELP MY SISTER AND NIECE AND THEY SAY:blah: THAT I HAVE ALWAYS HAD "GROWING HAIR" I TELL THEM THERE IS S BIG DIFFERENCE IN GROWING HAIR AND HEALTHY HAIR I NOW REALIZED IT WAS BECAUSE I USE TO ROLLER SET ONLY NO DIRECT HEAT BACK IN THE DAY OR WET PONYTAILS :rolleyes: THATS SO FUNNY THAT GOING BACK TO THE BASICS IS WHAT GAVE MOST OF US LONG HAIR AS CHILDREN:giggle:
