1. Don't fight your hair in the process. If combing becomes difficult use your fingers, add more conditioner, and start at the ends, if straight styles start to look a mess try bantu knots, braid out, buns, straw sets etc.
2. Start looking at fotki's of naturals. They will give you a lot of information on products and techniques.
3. Transition as long as you need in order to be comfortable with your new length.
4. It's a mental transition too. I mainly did it because I wanted to grow long hair and thought I could get there in the quickest, healthiest way with natural hair. But I now realize how awesome my hair is and prefer it this way even if others thought I was nutty for cutting off my relaxed hair when it was growing and looked healthy too.
This may vary depending on your hair type:
-Sulfate free moisturizing shampoo and conditioner
-Keep hair moisturized/oil
-Deep condition weekly
-Invest in a wide tooth comb
-Only comb hair while wet (preferable with conditioner)
WOW! I hit a blank when I opened this thread because without knowing why you're thinking of going natural, I don't know what advice will be helpful to you...
There are so many more that might touch on questions you may have so don't hesitate to do a search for more.
Oh I have just thought of some advice which I hope it hasn't been covered yet coz I was busy looking for threads and haven't read what others said. My advice is not to try to have hair like someone else. But really focus on your own hair and try to get to know what it responds best to. It helps to find someone with hair that looks like yours if you're clueless on what products might work on your hair. And if you find something that works, stick with it. Do not try to keep up with others. Do you and keep it super simple.
