I currently use peppermint oil. I mix it in with my shampoos and conditioners at the recommendation of the others here on LHCF. It sooths my dry scalp. If you're gonna do a massage, just be sure to mix with a carrier oil (jojoba, sweet almond, olive, coconut, etc). Peppermint is an essential oil and is too strong to be used alone directly on the scalp. I'm sure the others will chime in.
I use to use peppermint EO now I use grapefruit EO and I love it!!!! It stimulates growth and smells much better than peppermint IMO.
I feel you on this. I love the benefits of peppermint oil but the strong smell, especially mixed with other fragrances just sickens meI've been wanting to try grapefruit EO. I have peppermint and used it quite a bit but when I was in the hospital they put me in a SPR at first w/this lady who had to use a bedpan and whenever they cleaned her up, they used this peppermint oil to get rid of the smell. Needless to say, I was moved to another room but I can no longer smell peppermint w/o thinking of that old lady
. I always say it smells like an infirmary when I smell it now so the conditioners I'd previously added peppermint EO to are being given away.
I am pregnant and have stopped using it because the smell would make the world spin.
When I use it, I mix it with Vitamin E oil, Jojoba Oil, Rosemary oil. This is a recipe I got from www.motowngirl.com for my thinning hairline and temples.
I also put it in my shampoos because it stimulates my scalp.
LadyE can i just say that you have to be careful with some essential oils whilst pregnant. I think a lot of books recommend not using rosmary oil in particular.
Some essential oils are said to bring on labour.
