you can buy henna and mix with water instead of ACV or lemon juice. it takes something acidic to release the red dye. if you just add water, you will still get the conditioning properties of henna.
No difference in quality that i know of. I prefer the henna and to tone down the red you can add other herbs such as amla powder, fo-ti powder, shikakai powder and aritha to tone down the red and leave you with darker hair.I also add honey and yogurt for conditioning purposes and easier application/ rinse out. Along with a little acv.
I think they both work about the same. I use Henna and Indigo on my hair for a blue black color and I use Cassia on my daughters hair because it's a light reddish brown.
She insists I dont change her hair color by mistake. I wont use Henna on her hair. Scared to make that mistake.
I dont know of any more differences. I would love it if someone has more info.
