Do you ever miss your hair when it's braided or in a weave?

Recently I have been missing my natural hair because it's currently in a weave and the closest I can get to it is the new growth.
I miss it sooo much especially when I look through some of your albums and think I wish I could do all that you guys are doing to your hair, with my hair.
I can't take my hair out until the end of May because of my challenge. The longer I leave it the longer it will grow and the more satisfied I will be when I take it out, but the waiting is so hard. :nono:

Does anybody else miss their hair when it's 'tucked up'? What do you do to make yourself feel better?

I LOVE LOVE my braids when they are in and don't miss my hair at all -- I mean the low to no maintainence PLUS not having to worry about "styling" or products or frizzies or what the weathers like, etc. etc., is a winner for me. I can't wait to rock braids when the weather warms up . . .

I also can't wait to take down and enjoy my long thick hair in the fall . . .

I likey either way . . .

I am currently wearing micro briads and I am not taking them out/down until the end of may because I am also on a braid challenge. Everytime I read something new about a hair routine I just touch my new growth and think about how much long it will grow if I don't mess with my hair because the more you think about you natural hair the more you will convince yourself to take them out sooner, so just be patients and think of new ways to style your braids and remember patience is a virtue and the end results will be longer and thicker hair... hope that helped you out bye~*

Neroli, I too enjoy having my hair braided/weave because it's so easy but I guess I miss my hair because I hardly ever have it out.

Thanks, cyninmon123, for the encouragement. I'll try and exercise some more patience.

I miss my hair when I wear it up instead of down. I will really miss it this summer when I get my cornrows.

MissyT,
I hate wearing braids for this very reason. At first I think it's cute and I'm relieved to get a break from doing my hair, but after about a month I really really do miss my hair too. So, I know how you feel. Unfortunately, the only thing that makes me feel better is wearing my own hair out.

I do miss my natural hair after my braids have been in for a month. I am doing the crown and glory method. As of right now I have until April 13th before my braids come out. To keep me from taking them down to early I just keep thinking of all the growth I have accumulated:yay: . This keeps me from taking them down. I am a weirdo:weird: beacuse once I take my braids down I begin to miss them too.

I really do, I have had my hair in braids and a weave since August of 04- with retocuhes in btwn of course and to tell you the truth I dont even remember how my hair looks, I know it has grown tremedously but it has not been out in so long, its crazy because everyone loves my new hair color and style( beyonce hair color) but I have had enough- i do enjoy the low maintenace because i am late to work as it is- i really dont like to do my hair - no more than shampooing and conditioning- but i miss it so much this wknd i may just get my own hair done which is semi-natural and semi- texturized.. who knows.. what is a girl to do

I've been wearing braids since October and plan to keep wearing them until the end of the year. And, yes, I miss my hair. I primarily miss brushing it and the stimulation that gives my scalp. I massage my scalp with my fingers, but it's not the same. By the time I take my braids down, every 2 1/2 months or so, I just can't wait to run my fingers through my hair and give it a good shampoo. But I always get it braided again immediately or I'll get too used to having my hair down. I just keep reminding myself that the growth I'm getting plus the convenience of not having to do my hair everyday make it worth it.

I miss my hair in any updo or style after about a week. That's why I never get styles where I can't do my hair (like updos, braids, etc). I liked to get rollersets and wraps at the salon when I used to go. I love cornrows, but after about a week or two, I'm ready for them to come out so I can get into my hair...its a waste of money for me. Unless absolutely necessary to continue my stretch, I won't get any braids.

I'm 50/50

I wear braids a lot, but since I've cut my hair, I've been so curious as to how I'm going to wear it, and what it will really look like on me, and at the moment, I can't.

However, I just love the 'wake and go' that braids allow me, so it can work either way for me, just depends on the mood i'm in.

I miss my hair too. I am currently wearing a sewn in weave w/ synthetic hair. I work out a lot and cannot really wash it. I can only rinse. I'm about to go crazy. I normally wash my hair 3 times a week. I have to wear this style for at least 2 more weeks so I feel like I got my money's worth.

That's the main reason I never wear braids or weaves. I had braids once about 15 years ago LOL. I had them for one week, it was like sleeping on stones! What a relief when I took them out, to comb my own hair...

Nope, I am the exact same way. I just put mine in on the 6th of this month. May 6th is NOT going to come fast enough!! And in May when I take these out, July 6th is not going to come fast enough so I can put them back in...and the sagga continues. LOL.

AATH

I miss my hair while in braids too, but missing it is only part of my problem. I also panic--is my hair ok? does it need extra moisture? Did I rinse them well today? Are the braids too tight?

I think I do more worrying than missing. It's going to be hard to have my braids in for 3 months starting in June...maybe I'll just do 2 months :)

Whenever I wear cornrows I'm good for like three days...maybe four but then I have to take them back out and wash my hair and feel it....it's kinda weird.

Yes, and that is why I won't get a weave any time soon. I miss being able to wash and deep condition my hair 2xs a week

Absolutely and that's why my fiance shakes his head at me when I try because he knows I'll keep it in 5 days max and that goes for micro-braids, sew-ins, etc. I just miss my hair too much it's weird
.

Yes, I miss my natural hair as well when it's in braids, right now I have micros in my hair that have been in for two months. Every week I will remove a section of braids until they are all out. MISS MY HAIR SOMETHING AWFUL.

Also it's the first time I've had braids since I went natural so it's major, next time I will get a sewn in weave so at least I can fondle my new growth LOL. :)

yes!! this is hwy i always take out my style quick. i start missing being able to feel it and take care of it, or try out new products on it and take it out.

ABSOLUTELY!! :D

Last year I was doing my own version of the crown and glory method, for what seemed like ages! I miss washing my hair REALLY GOOD most of all. When I have my braids/weave, I get too cute and don't want to mess up my hairstyle so the wash just isn't the same.
On the flip side.. when my hair is out for a period of time- bunning, I can't wait to braid it up again :ohwell:

For a little while, yeah I miss it. Then I think about the washing/setting, and styling and wrapping, that I get over it pretty fast. Also, I know my hair is growin' like crazy and my ends aren't fallin' out when my braids are in...so I get over it!

Yes! I always miss feeling my natural hair when its in braids, thats the main reason why i only wear braids 1-2 times per year.

I miss my hair. I am on the braids and baggie challenge too and I haven't done the braids in 2 weeks. The reason is I miss running my finger through my hair when I am washing it. I feel relaxed when I play in my hair, while being gentle.

Yeah, what Neroli said! Braids prevent me from spending an hour roller setting my hair. Can't beat the low/no maintenance they offer.

I get antsy the first two-three weeks I have my hair in braids or weave but then after that I relax and ride it out. I have braids in for 7 weeks now and I thought it was gonna be so hard to keep past 5 weeks. Now I am aiming for 9. Wish me luck.

I miss my hair....I am ready to take my braids out. However, usually when I take them out, I get sick of my hair and I get them redone within a two week period....lol

Oh yes!!

I absolutley cannot bear to wear a full head of braids. I can just about cope with a set of cornrows in the front and two rows of weave at the back. That way I can still wash / deep condition my hair but it also prevents me from measuring / combing it so much so it gives my hair a much needed break. I find this works for me.

I'm missing it now...but these cornrows will be coming down this weekend. *Yeah*

I'm already thinking about my next hairstyle after good hot oil treatment and some deep conditioning. Daily styling gets to be a chore after a while so braids and sew-ins are convenient.
