Do my ends really matter???

Hello everyone, I new to this forum (actually I've been lurking for months). I'm in the process of transition and I've been wondering if should really be focusing on my ends since I will eventually cut them off. I haven't decided whether I want to BC or not. I'm 15 weeks post relaxer (I currently have twist in). If I don't take care of the ends can damage travel up the strand (I know stupid question but I am really curious ). Also can anyone suggest to me any type of wigs that will allow me have my natural hair cornrowed underneath. I've looked at a couple of half or 3/4 wigs (not sure which) although I like them I don't see how it would be possible to have my entire head cornrowed. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

That is not a stupid question. The answer is yes, a split end can split up the strand causing damage to the rest of your hair. I have not transitioned, so I am no expert. Hopefully someone with experience in that area can give you more information

Thanks for your response. It's just that I read some article and it said that splits ends/damange cannot travel up the hair strand. I've always thought that was weird since I notice in the past that my split ends would get wider if I left them in place.

Hello and welcome!

Speaking from my own personal experience I don't think trimming ends is a big deal....it is but then again it is not. My ends are not in the best shape but my hair is still growing and since I do not wear my hair down often it really does not matter...but when I get to a point wear I will start wearing my hair down more often then I will worry about trimming so it can look neat. I don't care about loosing length as long as my hair is healthy. I do however dust my ends like twice a month(just started this method) and that is another way to slowly get healthy ends as opposed to doing a big trim.

I have not noticed any damage traveling up my hair strand...but who knows.

I know there are alot of ladies who are very serious about keeping ends trimmed and everything but this is just my opinion.

That's a really good question. I was dealing with the same issue a few months ago. I was seriously considering transitioning but ended up relaxing again after 6 months. From my experience, you should still take care of your ends for 3 reasons: 1) if you change your mind, you can still retain some of the length/progress achieved. 2) if you want to wear straight styles, your ends won't look extremely thin and see through. 3) your hair won't tangle so much...I lost quite a lot of hair doing braids on wet hair and my ends looked terrible when doing a braidout. That's just been my experience. HTH!

Yes they do matter just keep them moisturize. I also have the twists and thats what i do. I made a braid spray with glycerine for that purpose

I agree with Nuelle you should take care of your ends. I thought I was going to transition but I've decided not to anymore. I'm glad I have been protecting my ends during the course of my year long stretch. My ends are uneven but the individual strands are healthy and free of split ends. She also right about wearing straight styles during the time of your transition, for ends that aren't frizzy and dry looking you should definitely moisturize and protect those ends even if you know you will be cutting them off. Finally if you are neglecting you ends you may start neglecting other parts of your hair. Taking care of all your hair ensures you get your hair to its healthiest point and prepares you for caring for your natural ends when you finally BC.

yes, your ends matter. even though ur gonna get rid of them eventually, u don't want to go around looking a mess while you transition
